The Petoskey Business Expo on Thursday April 16th at the Odawa Casino was another great event for the Petoskey Area with over 600 in attendance!

This Weekend

The 5th annual Instant Wine Cellar is scheduled for 7p.m. Friday, April 17th, at the Perry Hotel in Petoskey. Entry to the event is either a ($15 value) bottle of wine, a six-pack of craft beer, or $15. With the purchase of raffle tickets, guests have a chance to win an "Instant Wine Cellar" from the donated beverages, as well as many other fantastic prizes. There will be live music throughout the evening along with a silent auction, Stafford's hors d'oeuvres, and cash bar.
 

The John Jorgenson Quintet will be the grand finale for the Blissfest Folk and Roots Concert series at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey on Saturday April 18th. Lucky 7 Builder Raffle Run on Saturday April 18th. Participants will travel to different locations throughout Petoskey, Boyne City, Gaylord, Indian River, Harbor Springs, ending at Bay View Inn in Petoskey. At each location, participants will enjoy networking with each of the area businesses hosting the event. Three lucky winners will be drawn during dinner! Proceeds to benefit The Nehemiah Project. Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Sunday Series Recital is on April 19th, at 4:00 p.m. Please join us for our Sunday Series Recital featuring the Woodwind and Brass Ensembles. John Marshall, CFA, CFP®, AIF®, will be presenting a one hour educational seminar entitled 'Taking Control:  A Financial Planning Starter Kit'. The seminar is being presented on behalf of the Michigan Financial Planning Association as part of Money Smart Week. Money Smart Week ®, a public awareness campaign created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002, is designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. The seminar is being held at the Boyne District Library (201 E. Main Street, Boyne City, MI 49712) from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21st.
 

The Petoskey-based Outdoor Lighting Forum will hold its 12th Annual Lighting Awards Luncheon on the day before Earth Day, Tuesday, April 21st, at the City Park Grill in Petoskey. Each year, the OLF shines the light on sound lighting practices in Northwest Michigan and draws attention to the issue of light pollution and how to mitigate its effects. The luncheon takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. It will be hosted by Mary Lou Tanton, OLF founder. The public is invited to attend, for the cost of your lunch. The April Swirl is Thursday, April 23rd from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Barrel Back Restaurant will be serving mouth-watering appetizers and wine, and Jeff Pagel will be entertaining with his acoustic guitar melodies. The Annual CTAC Youth Art Show will be up for viewing in the galleries, as well as an exhibit of Marilyn Stockwell-Colestock's work. Swirl tickets are $15 in advance and $20 per person the day of the event, when available. Swirl Wine Tastings typically sell out, so it is suggested that tickets are purchased in advance. The state of transit in Charlevoix and Emmet counties will be discussed at a Transit Summit April 23rd in Petoskey. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Emmet County Fairgrounds and is being sponsored by Networks Northwest, Charlevoix County Transit, Straits Regional Ride, the Disability Network of Northwest Michigan, and Friendship Centers of Emmet County. The Summit will include a discussion of trends in transit ridership, future needs, regional transit, and challenges in transit service. The event includes lunch. The Northern Michigan Chorale is excited to announce their annual spring concert titled, Spring Is In The Air. Songs will reflect the many moods of spring and will be enjoyed by the entire family.  The Little Traverse Youth Choir joins the Chorale on selected numbers. All performances will be held in the Petoskey High School Auditorium. Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th, with a 3:00 p.m. performance on Sunday, April 26th. Tickets are $12.00 for Adults, $7.00 for ages 10-17, and $3.00 under age 10 and are available from the Petoskey Chamber of Commerce, Between the Covers Bookstore in Harbor Springs, on-line at the Chorale website, from Chorale members or at the door (check or cash). 
 

Petoskey Bands present Jazz Concert/Dinner on April 24th. The Petoskey High School Jazz Band is presenting their annual Bay Harbor Concert and Dinner at a new location. This year's event is one night only, Fri. April 24th, in the Lange Center at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:00.  Tickets are $60/person and can be purchased at the Petoskey High School office, the Petoskey Middle School office or at the Sunglass Shoppe in Downtown Petoskey.  Proceeds benefit the Petoskey High School Jazz Band.

The YMCA of Northern Michigan's invites you to test your skill at the 2015 Meijer's 3-on-3 Basketball tournament held on Saturday, April 25th at Petoskey High School, beginning at 9:00am. All registration forms are due Wednesday, April 22. This double elimination tournament is open to all children in grades 3 - 12, with both male and female brackets. In 2014, 52 teams from all across the state competed in this fun and exciting tournament. Medals will be given out for the top three teams in each bracket. Concessions will be available all day! Friends @ the Carnegie Lecture Series takes place on Monday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Carnegie Building, on 451 E. Mitchell St. Join Laurie Gaetano and Gary Appold as they take you on a journey of Headlands Dark Sky Park, a 600-acre park located about two miles west of downtown Mackinaw City in northwest lower Michigan.  This event is open to the public and admission is free. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Petoskey District Library. 
 

North Central Michigan College's Lecture Series program, featuring Marvel Comics Creative Director Bill Rosemann, has been changed to Wednesday, April 29th. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. and doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are free and North Central will honor all tickets with the April 15 date. Attendees must have a ticket to enter. Tickets are available at all North Central locations. The lecture will be held in the gymnasium in the Student and Community Resource Center on the Petoskey campus. Lincoln Elementary School is hosting a 5k Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, May 16th at 9:00 a.m. The run/walk will start at Lincoln School then proceed down the beautiful Bear River Trail to the Waterfront bike path and back. Proceeds from the Fun Run/Walk will go towards the purchase of new playground equipment for the Lincoln playground. Prizes will be awarded to the top three runners in each age group. T-shirts are guaranteed for those registering by May 1st. The WRCNM Clothesline Project will be displayed in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey through April 30th.
 The exhibit will be on display from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the lobby of the main administration building. The shirts, created by WRCNM clients are an impactful, creative way for survivors to explore the power of their unique voices, to tell their stories and for the community to bear witness to this extraordinary, enlightening and empowering process. Back by popular demand, a six-week course "An Introduction to Mindfulness for Stress Reduction" will run Monday's from 6:15-7:30 p.m. beginning April 20th
. The course will introduce participants to the tools and methods of becoming more aware of one's thoughts and feelings through Mindfulness training and practice. Mindfulness-based stress reduction training has been shown to be an effective tool in the treatment of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, substance abuse, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic headaches, smoking cessation and more. The course will take place at 413 Waukazoo Ave. in Downtown Petoskey at the office of Integrative Medicine - Carin Nielsen, MD. Cost of the six-week course is $195.
