In the "Spirit of Christmas" and giving back during the Holiday Season, the Home Builder's Association Professional Women in Building (PWB) members adopted a family and provided gifts to the nine family members. In the picture, Christine Cole and Geri Nelson of DTE Energy, Cindy Pasant of Great Lakes Plumbing, Heating & AC and Lani Laporte of Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity spent one evening wrapping all of the presents. The PWB's second annual "Lucky 7 Builder Raffle Run" event is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2015. This year's proceeds from the event will be donated to the Nehemiah House. Boy Scouts Offer Pancake Supper. Troop 5 of Petoskey is hosting a Pancake Supper on Wed. North Central Michigan College will present three midday lectures. On Wednesday, February 11th, Dr. Andre Fields will speak as part of the College's Black History Month programs. Hospice of Northwest Michigan & the Harbor Springs Friendship Center Invites the community to: "Love Enough to Ask the Hard Questions" Amy Wieland, Executive Director of Hospice of Northwest Michigan, will be presenting on and facilitating a discussion of the Who, What, Where, When and How of Hospice Services in our community. This is an OPEN to the community event and there is NO CHARGE to attend. Black History Month Presentation with Dr. Andre Fields, noted psychologist and advocate for diversity, at North Central Michigan College on Wednesday, February 11th, as part of the College's Black History Month programs. The lecture will be at noon in the cafeteria on the Petoskey campus. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. The cost for the optional lunch is $10 per person. Wilderness Adventurers give presentation on the Lake Superior Water Trail and Heritage Coast. During this one-hour presentation, you will explore the Lake Superior Water Trail and learn more about the McGuffin's current conservation efforts to protect and restore the Lake Superior Watershed. The presentation will take place at North Central Michigan College on Thursday, February 12th at 1:00 p.m. in the Library Conference Room. A book signing will immediately follow and their award-winning books will be available for purchase. Petoskey Rotary is hosting their annual Spaghetti Dinner Feb. 12th. Children and adults alike will be asking for more spaghetti at the Rotary Club of Petoskey's annual spaghetti dinner on Thursday, Feb. 12th, at Petoskey High School. The meal is served from 5-7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children under 4. The all-you-can-eat meal includes spaghetti, coleslaw, rolls, beverages, and ice cream. Carry out meals are available. Funds from the 63rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner help the Rotary Club of Petoskey support numerous programs in the community and worldwide. The Blissfest Music Organization invites artists to submit designs to be considered for the 35th annual Blissfest Music Festival logo before the deadline of Feb 15th. Submissions must be original artwork and of a size easily scalable for a variety of uses including T-shirts and posters. The word "Blissfest" must be prominent in the design as well as the year "2015" and/or "35th Annual". We are looking for designs that are distinctive and imaginative that project the Blissfest theme. Hey, kids! Win $100 by telling us the coolest part of Emmet County's history! Emmet County Historical Essay Contest for elementary students announced The Emmet County Historical Commission is once again holding its annual Historical Essay Contest, which is open to any third- or fourth-grade student in Emmet County, including home-schooled children. First-place earns $100, while second-place wins $50. The teacher of the winning student also will receive a $50 stipend to use for classroom supplies. Veterans at North Central Michigan College will be better able to transition from military to college life and connect with available benefits, state and local resources and one-on-one support thanks to an innovative program launched by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) and the Michigan College Access Network. The program, known as the Michigan Veteran Education Initiative, places a veteran resource representative (VRR) on college campuses throughout Michigan, where they will work to ensure student veterans and their dependents succeed as they pursue an education. Raven Hill Discovery Center's Ham Radio Station is up and running. With help from members of the Top Of Michigan Amateur Radio Club (TOMARC) in Gaylord, the station is operational and the first class of technicians has received their ham radio licenses.  Recently, local electric company, Great Lakes Energy, came to the station's rescue, when sliding snow ripped the new ham radio antenna off the Center's roof.  A Great Lakes crew came out and set a utility pole for Raven Hill to use as a freestanding antenna. The HBA of Northern Michigan recently announced at their general membership meeting earlier this month that their Officers and Board of Directors have been formally sworn in and have assumed their positions for 2015.
