Sturgeon River Pottery contributes 'popcorn' money. Sturgeon River Pottery is proud to announce that this year with customer donations to the popcorn machine along with their match of every dollar donated, they were able to contribute $1,200 to the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation to support local school art programs. This year grants went to support art teachers in Wolverine, Alanson, Petoskey St Francis and Harbor Springs.

Boyne Mountain Resort Announces Opening Day! Boyne Mountain will open FOR THE SEASON on Friday, November 21st at 9am. The resort will be open daily, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., for the winter season following a series of storm systems providing nearly three feet of lake effect snow, the most the resort has ever experienced prior to Thanksgiving. For Opening Day, skiers and riders will be able to enjoy 10 runs equating to nearly 75 acres serviced by three chairlifts, including the beginner area, Boyneland. "Thanksgiving New Moon Stargaze" Saturday, Nov. 22nd at the Guest House at the Headlands
from 7 to 9 p.m. Giving thanks for the dark skies overhead at the Headlands International Dark Sky Park in Emmet County. Explore the many traditions of stories and science connected with the Orion Region of the sky, where the horse-head nebula, the pearly gates, the point of origin for our celestial system and more, all find their home. Program will be held indoors and out, with seasonally specific light refreshments and no reservations are necessary. Emmet County's annual Christmas Holiday Arts, Crafts and Gift Show will take place this year on Saturday, November 22nd,
at the Community Building at the Emmet County Fairgrounds. Doors will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dozens of vendors will be offering their one-of-a-kind, quality gift and craft items during the show. Admission is $2 or a donation of a non-perishable food item, with proceeds benefiting Brother Dan's Food Pantry, which serves Northern Michigan. Concessions will be available from Brother Dan's as well. The event is presented each year by the Emmet County Parks and Recreation staff. PHS Holiday Craft & Gift Show is Saturday, November 22nd from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Petoskey High School gym. More than 50 booths of handmade crafts and home vendor products, unique Northmen merchandise, spa treatments, lunch concessions, a holiday bake sale, and a raffle are on tap! Admission is free, but if you make a cash donation at the entrance, you'll be thanked with a ticket for a door prize drawing featuring special gifts from our vendors. All proceeds benefit the 2015 Senior All-Night Party-- the celebration for PHS graduates held the eve of graduation in a safe, alcohol and drug-free environment.

Free Community Thanksgiving Meal Open to All! Cross of Christ Lutheran, Emmanuel Episcopal, and First Presbyterian churches are teaming up to provide a free community Thanksgiving meal on Sunday, Nov. 23rd to be held at Cross of Christ, 1450 E. Christ Child Society of Northern Michigan has joined #GivingTuesday. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world. Taking place December 2nd - the Tuesday after Thanksgiving - #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.

Ameriprise Financial advisors, employees and clients recently came together to help ensure over four Northern Michigan counties area families have nutritious meals to share this holiday season. Organized by OsborneKlein and Shaun M. Osborne CFP®, CRPC®, CFS®, Financial Advisor, several staff and clients volunteered at all the area grocery stores to collect food for the hungry in our own community. This effort was centered on helping the one in six Americans who struggle with hunger.
The Home Builders Association of Northern Michigan (HBANM) recently announced that registration for the 2015 Northern Michigan Regional Home Show is now open! The Home Show, which is entering its 39th year, is the official home show for the building industry in Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego Counties and draws attendees from across the state of Michigan. HBANM members are represented in many of the display booths but participation is open to any business that is in the building industry. This year's show will be on March 13th and 14th of 2015 and will again be hosted by North Central Michigan College in Petoskey. Save the Date for 2nd Annual "Toast to Literacy" from Char-Em United Way and Castle Farms Char-Em United Way and Castle Farms will present the 2nd annual "Toast to Literacy" event on Saturday, February 21, 2015. This event will be at Castle Farms from 7:00 to 11:00 pm and will feature beer, wine, and mead from local breweries and wineries, as well as a food competition from several local establishments. "Toast to Literacy" will include music and a silent auction with the evening's proceeds helping to support Char-Em United Way's Dolly Parton Imagination Library program in Emmet and Charlevoix Counties. The Imagination Library mails a free, age-appropriate book each month to enrolled children from birth to age 5.
