Hospice invites you to join our "Handling the Holidays" program taking place Tuesday, November 11th, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 06781 M-66 North, Charlevoix. This program is open to anyone who feels a need for help in coping with the holidays. Special focus is given to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one whether recent or past. We will talk of how to cope with our loss through the Holidays and special occasions and assist in creating a simple plan for handling some of the stresses associated with the Holidays. Veterans and their families are invited to a free breakfast at the North Central Michigan College cafeteria on Tuesday, November 11th, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. The college's Student Veterans Association and Chase Bank are sponsoring the event to show appreciation to our local veterans and their families. Suggested donation is $11. 100% of all donations go directly to local veterans, no administration fees! Collections in the past have ranged from $500 to $1000. Let's top $100 this year. Donations help veterans with immediate needs including gas cards, food, shelter, clothing and transportation to downstate medical facilities. Remember those who have served our country.
McLaren Northern Michigan will host its Autumn Health Event on Wednesday, November 12th The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center, 820 Arlington Avenue, Petoskey. Training For Youth Entrepreneurs Interested in Starting a Business. Northern Lakes Economic Alliance and MSU Extension are teaming up to bring youth entrepreneurs a very special business startup workshop. Targeted to youth between the ages of 16 to 19, a two hour, "How to REALLY Start Your Own Business": workshop is being offered on Thursday, November 13th from 6-8 p.m. Young entrepreneurs will have the chance to evaluate the potential of their idea and learn the process of putting a business plan together, as well as ask questions specific to their business. The results of a housing target market analysis for Northwest Michigan will be discussed at a public forum November 13th in Petoskey. Camp Daggett Adventure Center will offer an Adventure Education/Challenge Course Training Workshop on Thursday and Friday, November 20th-21st at Camp Daggett's indoor center on Walloon Lake from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day. This workshop is designed to give the participant a hands-on experience in adventure education and utilization of a challenge ropes course. Anyone working with young people will be given ideas and activities that can be taken back to the workplace and used with minimal props and expense. Cost is $200 and includes lunch, instruction, safety/instructor manual and use of equipment. A $50 deposit is required to reserve a spot. Workshop is limited to 15 participants 21 and older. Emmet County's annual Christmas Holiday Arts, Crafts and Gift Show will take place this year on Saturday, November 22nd, at the Community Building at the Emmet County Fairgrounds. Doors will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dozens of vendors will be offering their one-of-a-kind, quality gift and craft items during the show. Admission is $2 or a donation of a non-perishable food item, with proceeds benefiting Brother Dan's Food Pantry, which serves Northern Michigan. Concessions will be available from Brother Dan's as well. The event is presented each year by the Emmet County Parks and Recreation staff. Byte-Sized Tech: Beginning Internet. Are you interested in learning how to use the internet but worried it is too much to learn? The Crooked Tree Art Center is now taking online registrations for the upcoming 2015 Juried Photography Exhibition. The show will be on display opening Saturday, January 24, 2015 and running through April 4th. Safe Home Harvest Food and Supply Drive underway. The Safe Home emergency shelter for domestic abuse survivors and their children in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego counties is operated 24/7 by the Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan. The Harvest Food and Supply Drive represents one of the most significant ways community members can help support families utilizing Safe Home services. Donations of non-perishable foods, paper products, cleaning supplies, personal care items and financial contributions are appreciated. Last year the Safe Home provided 2,926 nights of refuge and more than 8,700 meals to 140 survivors and their children, as well as all their daily needs.
