Candidate Forum for General Election, Thursday 10/23

Meet the candidates for key state and federal races this Thursday in Petoskey.
Jerry Cannon, candidate for the 1st US Congressional Race; Dr. Phil Belfy and Wayne Schmidt, candidates for the 37th State Senate race, and Lee Chatfield and Jim Page, candidates for the 107th State House race are expected to be at the forum on Thursday Oct. 23rd. The forum will be held in the Student Center (Iron Horse Café) at North Central Michigan College. A meet and greet will begin at 6 p.m. and the moderated forum will begin at 7:00. The forum is free and open to the public.
Hosts for the event are the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, North Central Michigan College, the Petoskey News Review, and the Northern Michigan Society for Human Resource Management.

Community Athletic Complex Information Meetings

Representatives from Say Yes to Petoskey Kids will be at the Candidate's Forum Thursday to share information about the Nov. 4 ballot question that seeks support for a Community Athletic Complex on the campus of Petoskey High School and Middle School. You can also learn more about this ballot proposal at two public forums hosted by the Public Schools of Petoskey.
The free, informational forums will be held Wed. Oct. 22 and Wed. Oct. 29. Both sessions will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Petoskey Middle School. The Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the ballot proposal and encourages a 'yes' vote, but encourages chamber members and the public to be more informed and take advantage of one of these opportunities to learn more about this important community issue.

The Breakfast for Champions Committee will soon be meeting to decide the recipients of the Chamber Mission Award and the Service Excellence Award. They are seeking your nominations. The Chamber Mission Award recognizes an individual, business or organization that supports the chamber's mission of helping area businesses succeed while protecting our community's quality of life and fostering responsible growth. The Service Excellence Award is sponsored by Stafford's Hospitality and is presented annually to the individual, business or organization demonstrating superior, unique and unequaled service to the public.
