Don't Miss Business After Hours - Local Food and Farming Theme This Thursday!

Businesses and organizations in the area are invited to attend Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce's Local Food and Themed Business After Hours from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, at Stafford's Perry Hotel.
"This after hours will feature members involved with farming and local foods," said Membership Director, Lisa Hoyt. "Attendees will have the chance to learn about the different farms and understand the importance of local foods."
Sponsors include: Bear Creek Organic Farm, Bill's Farm Market, Coveyou Scenic Farm Market, Harbor Springs Vineyard and Winery, Institute for Sustainable Living, Art & Natural Design (ISLAND), Maple Moon Family Sugary, North Central Michigan College, Petoskey Farms Vineyard & Winery and Pond Hill Farms. This BAH is also held the day before Restaurant week in Petoskey www.petoskeyrestaurantweek.com.
No reservation is necessary. Cost is $7 for members; $12 for not-yet members. Business After Hours is a well-attended "end-of-the-work-day" networking event designed to help participants make new business contacts, develop potential new customers, and build exposure for their businesses. Attendees will have the chance to win door prizes donated by different area businesses, enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and cash bar.

LAST CHANCE - Sign Up Your Staff For Hospitality Training

The next seminar hosted by Hospitality the Little Traverse Way will be held Thursday October 16th
in Boyne City. The seminar is targeted at front-line staff and provides training on how to provide the "World's Best Guest Service" for your clients and customers. The cost is just $20 per person. The seminar will be held in the Community Room at the Boyne District Library and will be led by Meagan Krzywosinski. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. with a light breakfast provided. The program will begin at 9:00. Pre-registration is required and should include the names, with correct spelling, of your staff members who will be attending the program. Downtown Petoskey Presents A Moveable Feast
Paying tribute to the many years that Ernest Hemingway spent growing up in Petoskey, Downtown Petoskey is set to host A Moveable Feast, a weekend of fun, fall activities modeled around Hemingway's hobbies. Activities will take place Friday and Saturday, October 17th and 18th.
On Friday, kick off the weekend at the launch party for Petoskey's Restaurant Week at City Park Grill with a Hemingway Happy Hour! From 4:30 to 6 p.m. step back in time with Hemingway inspired cocktails, door prizes, half off appetizers, and music by Sean Bielby. There will be a suggested donation at the door with proceeds going to Manna Food Pantry with City Park Grill matching donations up to $500.
Join us on Lake Street at 6 p.m. for Squash Bowling! Take your pick of squash and roll for a turkey to win Downtown Treasure Certificates.
Lace up your shoes for the Saturday morning Fun Run with the Bulls! The 3ish mile fun run starts in Pennsylvania Park by Bay Street, follows the new Downtown Pathway by Arlington Street, loops through Bay View, and finishes back in Pennsylvania Park. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the fun run starts at 9 p.m. The entry fee is $10, and each participant will get a set of bull horns. Runners, walkers, and strollers are welcome. Runners who beat the bull will get a Downtown Treasure!
And finally all day Friday and Saturday, participate in the Selfies for Shopping contest by feasting your eyes on the Downtown Petoskey's merchant windows during A Moveable Feast! Stroll from window to window searching out the local fall produce item, snap a selfie in front of the window, and upload it to the Facebook Event Page, A Moveable Feast, with the hashtag #PetoskeyFeast. Check back Monday, October 20th to see if your selfies are prize winners of Downtown Treasure Certificates!

Connecting Women in Business October 21 Fundraising Luncheon - Register by Friday!

The next CWIB luncheon is Tuesday, Oct. 21, 11:30 - 1:30 p.m. at Sage Restaurant of Odawa Hotel. Registration and buffet lunch begin at 11:30 am. Register online Here. This is the annual Connecting Women in Business GO GRANTS Fundraiser. Start your holiday shopping with this amazing silent auction and you know the money raised by the silent auction helps improve the self esteem and skills of young women, in grades 6-10 in the CHAR-EM ISD service area. Cost to attend is $35. $20 of the ticket price goes directly to the grants program as well as proceeds from the silent auction and sponsorships. Register today, as registration closes on Friday at 5 p.m. Please note, due to the popularity of this event we can not accommodate late or walk-in registrations! Chamber businesses are encouraged to support the silent auction and the Go Grants by making a silent auction donation. All sponsorship dollars will also directly support the GO Grants. Individuals can to support this event by being part of the GO GRANTS wine brigade - drop off a bottle of wine at the chamber office and we will put it into a basket with other donated wines to turn into a wonderful silent auction item. Go Grants are an important element of the Connecting Women in Business Group. Grants provide small grants to girls in grades 6 to 10 in the Char-Em ISD service area and reach out to young girls in the area who have an idea and a passion to try something new. Connecting Women in Business Membership Renewal Time
It is time to renew your membership in CWIB now. Membership is valid from October 2014 to September 2015. An individual rate is only $25 and the corporate rate is $50. Under the corporate rate, up to 10 employees of your company can be listed as a member and receive the member pricing. By being a member you save $5 on admission for most lunch meetings. PETOSKEY CANDIDATES' FORUM 2014 GENERAL ELECTION
A forum that will focus on candidates for the upcoming General Election in November will feature candidates' for Local, State, and Federal office. It will take place at the Student Center at North Central Michigan College, located at 1515 Howard St., Petoskey. (Use parking lot 5, past the main entrance)
6:00 p.m. - Candidate's Meet & Greet. Candidates from the 37th State Senate, 107th State House and 1st US Congressional race will be present.
7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Forum
