Chamber Urges YES Vote on Community Athletic Complex

On November 4th, voters in the Petoskey School District will have an opportunity to decide whether or not the Public Schools of Petoskey should move forward with the construction of a new athletic complex on the school's campus.  The ballot request is for .50 mills for ten years.  This will be a net increase of .25 mills as another .25 mills will be falling off the tax rolls at that time.  Upon the recommendation of the PRCC Government Relations Committee, the chamber's Board of Directors passed a resolution last week to endorse the ballot issue and encourage voters to vote 'yes' in support of the project.  While the chamber doesn't readily endorse tax increases for area businesses, they see this project as being long overdue and something that will enhance the community.  The board also applauds the school leaders for trimming back the project from the $15 million request they made back in 2007.  You can use a property tax calculator and view a video describing the project at www.petoskeyschools.org.  Brochures are available at the chamber office.
