Friends of the Petoskey Public Library Used Book Sale will be held July 24th-25th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Members of the Friends are invited to a pre-sale Wednesday, July 23, from 4-6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the library. Memberships for as low as $10.00 can be purchased the day of the sale. Most paperbacks $2.00 and most hardcovers $3.00. All proceeds to benefit the library.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the Bay Harbor Arts Festival will be Saturday July 26th and Sunday July 27th. This is a two day celebration of the arts set along Bay Harbor's waterfront in the Village. This year, we welcome over 80 artists from across the country that were chosen for their unique talents. A wonderful lineup of musicians will entertain during the weekend, as well as dance performances from 45 Dance Studio in Petoskey on Saturday. Wine tastings will also take place on Saturday at Seventeen Restaurant. Friends @ the Carnegie are hosting Julie Whitley of Boyne City on Mon. July 28th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Carnegie Bldg. in Petoskey for her program "TODAY'S ANIMAL CONTROL - Not Your Grandparent's Dog Catcher".  Find out about the Michigan Assoc. of Animal Control Officers & here true stories, some funny, from a 21 year AC veteran in Charlevoix County. .  There will be a slideshow and time for Q & A at the end. Lights Out, Northern Michigan! This year, the Lights Out Across the Bay and Lights Out Across the Straits challenges will take place on Tuesday, July 29th, 2014, from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. During that timeframe, residents, businesses and visitors in the communities of Petoskey and Harbor Springs, and Mackinaw City and St. Ignace will compete with one-another to achieve greater darkness over their towns. Participants can show their support by signing a Lights Out Pledge and posting their support in residence windows or at the entrance to business locations. Pledge forms are available on the County web site, www.emmetcounty.org and at area Chambers of Commerce in the four communities. Vernales is having a special event on Wednesday, July 30th at 6:30 p.m. Peter Stolpman, owner of Stolpman Vineyards, California, will host a four-course Wine Dinner featuring a selection of his "highly acclaimed" wines. The dinner will be held in Vernales' Wine Cellar and will be prepared by co-owner and Executive Chef Keith Lynch. Seating is limited. Reservations are required. Huber Senior Center Memorial Garden Open House. The Huber Senior Center, located at 6436 East Brutus Road in Brutus, is hosting an Open House for the public for its newly constructed Memorial Garden. Developed in memory of friends, the Memorial Garden project was managed by Penny Huber with assistance from volunteers. The Huber Senior Center welcomes all to visit on Wednesday, July 30th from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. to view the beautiful garden, which is accessible to all. Rain date for the event is August 1st. The Huber Senior Center is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and is available on a donation basis for adults age 60 and over and their spouses. The Bay Harbor Ladies Golf Association invites community members to tee up for the Pink Ribbon Rally on Thursday, August 7th, in support of breast health through McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation. Tee off is at 8 a.m. at the Bay Harbor Golf Club.  The fee to participate is $195 which includes breakfast and lunch. The team of dental professionals at Beacon Dental Center will be hosting their fourth annual Dentistry from the Heart (DFTH) event on Friday, August 8th. This DFTH event will donate thousands of dollars in free dental care and provide much needed relief to people in need in our community. The line will begin early into the night before, with hundreds prepared to camp out in order to receive free services. Patients are seen on a first come, first serve basis. Event registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. We encourage patients to dress appropriate for the weather as the waiting area is outside. The Emmet County Sportsmen's Club - Northern Michigan's Premier Shot gunning facility announces the opening of its state of the art Sporting Clays Course.
