Artists from all over the United States will descend upon Downtown Petoskey to show off their wares. For the 29th year, approximately 135 booths will grace Pennsylvania Park, with items ranging from pottery to jewelry, from paintings to photographs, and much more.Wander through the hostas to find everything from that perfect, one-of-a-kind gift for someone special to that jaw-dropping focal piece for the office. Items range in size from small, intricate pieces of jewelry, to functional wearable art, to big enough to take advantage of on-site UPS shipping. Petoskey Community Courts invites everyone to attend "An Awesome Night of Tennis" on Friday, July 18th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the PHS Tennis Courts to benefit the community effort to renovate the upper 6-court lighted tennis complex at Petoskey High School. Raven Hill Discovery Center gears up for Summer Magic festival at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19th, at 4737 Fuller Road, in rural East Jordan. On this one night a year, Raven Hill is reserved for adults only and a "steampunk" theme will be visible everywhere this year. There are 6 events and 5 age categories, both male and female, for swimmers over 13 years and 4 events with 3 age categories for those under 13 years of age. Cause for Paws to take place July 24th. You are invited to join hosts CeeJay and Jack Heckenberg at their lovely home in Harbor Springs for an evening of live music, hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. Generations of year round and seasonal residents enjoyed entertainment at two legendary northern Michigan establishments -- Club Manitou and Club Ponytail. Upstairs Club Manitou was an upscale dining establishment but underground was "Slim's -- speakeasy where high stakes gambling took place. It opened in 1929 with ties to Detroit's infamous Purple Gang. The business closed in the 1950s and in 1962 it became Club Ponytail, a teen dance club where the Beach Boys, Bob Seger, and Roy Orbison performed.The program begins at 7:00 at the museum on July 24th, and is open free of charge to the public. Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteer support for framing our newest Habitat Build in Alanson. We will be on site Saturday July 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday July 21st from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday July 24th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday July 26th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Volunteers must be over the age of 16 to help with this aspect of the project. We are needing volunteers to help frame and raise the walls and need a couple people that would be interested in making lunch/dinner for the volunteers on these specific dates. Lights Out, Northern Michigan! This year, the Lights Out Across the Bay and Lights Out Across the Straits challenges will take place on Tuesday, July 29th, 2014, from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. During that timeframe, residents, businesses and visitors in the communities of Petoskey and Harbor Springs, and Mackinaw City and St. Ignace will compete with one-another to achieve greater darkness over their towns. Participants can show their support by signing a Lights Out Pledge and posting their support in residence windows or at the entrance to business locations. Pledge forms are available on the County web site, www.emmetcounty.org and at area Chambers of Commerce in the four communities. CONGRATULATIONS to Petoskey's 9/10 Little League All-Stars who beat Cheboygan to win the District tournament. They will head to the Little League State Tournament July 24 in Grand Rapids.
