Up North Vocal Institute is having two Incredible Performances this Saturday July 12th! First a Musical Theater Showcase at 2:00 p.m. at the CTAC Theater and then a 6:00 p.m. Concert in the Park at Pennsylvania Park. The Up North Vocal Institute (UNVI) is a summer training program for young artists that focuses not only on training the voice, but the mind and body as well. Utilizing a team teaching method of four 'master voice teachers' and four pianist/collaborative artist coaches, the participants also work with an exercise and nutrition specialist while attending the program. Both performances are free and open to the public.

Voices Without Borders will presenting its 5th international choir & dance festival from July 15th-20th. The producers of the festival are working very hard to find host families for the visiting choir participants from several countries. Home stays allow the visitors to get to know how an American family lives and functions. Families who are willing to host the youth participants need to take two or more members so the visitors can turn to each other for support when necessary. Hosting responsibilities include providing lodging, most meals, and transportation to and from festival events. Petoskey Community Courts invites everyone to attend "An Awesome Night of Tennis" on Friday, July 18th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the PHS Tennis Courts to benefit the community effort to renovate the upper 6-court lighted tennis complex at Petoskey High School. This fun Pro-Am event will feature local tennis club professionals and their amateur partners battling it out in exciting doubles competition. 'Headlands by Day' on July 18th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., learn about what makes the Headlands park a spectacular adventure day and night. The Headlands boasts miles of trails, an inland lake, and acres of untouched old-growth forest that make it as rich a resource by day as its skies are overhead at night. For this uncommon daytime event, join naturologist Maureen Stine for a fun, hands-on, multi-sensory program called, "Nature-Soup" which covers some water and land ecology studies and includes a nice easy nature walk. Best-suited for families with children ages 5-13. There is no cost for the program and reservations are not required. Rain or shine. Kayaking enthusiasts are invited to participate in the 6th annual Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake, a fundraising event for the Camp Daggett Adventure Center (CDAC), Saturday, July 19th and Sunday July 20th from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day. Beginners and advanced adult kayakers will paddle the 30 miles along the beautiful Walloon Lake shoreline and raise much needed dollars for scholarships for children to attend Camp Daggett Adventure Center programs. Raven Hill Discovery Center gears up for Summer Magic festival at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19th, at 4737 Fuller Road, in rural East Jordan. On this one night a year, Raven Hill is reserved for adults only and a "steampunk" theme will be visible everywhere this year. Area musicians will entertain and guests can enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres as they browse the spectacular silent auction and explore the grounds.

Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteer support for framing our newest Habitat Build in Alanson. We will be on site Saturday July 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday July 21st from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday July 24th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday July 26th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Volunteers must be over the age of 16 to help with this aspect of the project. We are needing volunteers to help frame and raise the walls and need a couple people that would be interested in making lunch/dinner for the volunteers on these specific dates. Attend the Friends of Alanson's Beer and Wine Tasting Festival and Juried Fine Art Show on Sat, July 26th at Stafford's Crooked River Lodge and Suites located on US-31 just north of the M-68 intersection in Alanson. This year's event will benefit the Alanson High School's Agriscience Greenhouse Project they hope to build this fall. St. Francis Xavier 8th grade families will be hosting parking in the School/Church parking lot again this year (by donation) on Friday of Sidewalk Sales in July. With much of the on-street parking occupied with tents and such guests may appreciate knowing this option is available. If possible, please post this info on the "more information" link on the Chamber's website and anywhere else you feel is appropriate. Proceeds go to help support the graduating class's group trip.

Crooked Tree Arts center is now accepting applications for the upcoming Juried Fine Arts Exhibition. This exhibition has become a hallmark to showcase artists from across the state of Michigan. The exhibition is open to all Michigan artists and to members of the Crooked Tree Arts Center who are 18 years or older. Entry dates are from June 1st - July 31st. The exhibition will be presented in the Ermy B. & Gordon B. Bonfield Gallery from September 20th through November 15th.
