Speed bumps hope to create a safe campus environment

You may have noticed a few speed bumps recently placed around the campus roads. K-State Salina is hoping to make the campus a safer place for all drivers and pedestrians with these installations.

When approaching a speed bump, make sure to slow down when traveling over it. Do not try to go around the speed bump because that violates the Kansas State Statue 8-1507 and can result in a traffic citation costing $75 and a court fee costing $108.

For questions about these official traffic control devices, contact campus police sergeant Rick Honeycutt at 785-826-2903.
Recruiting for an active club

Attention all K-State Salina students that enjoy running or have a general interest in being active. Kate Otto and Danielle Brown are forming an active club on campus to promote the idea of being healthy and active together. This club will meet to form an exercise support group as well as lead different community events.

If any student is interested in joining, please contact Kate Otto at kmotto@ksu.edu or Danielle Brown at dnbrown@k-state.edu.

Are you looking for an on campus job and are math savvy? The K-State Salina library is hiring math tutors to staff the new walk-in math tutoring available this semester in the library. The hours needed for tutors are Sunday evenings, as well as Monday and Thursday from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m..

To qualify as a library tutor, one must have earned a grade "B" or better in the K-State Salina math course you want to tutor in. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please contact Kate Otto, undergraduate services librarian, at kmotto@ksu.edu to schedule a time to speak in person.

Diversity Tea makes front page of Salina Journal
In an effort to offer the campus more cultural experiences, the K-State Salina Multicultural Student Union once again hosted their annual Diversity High Tea on Jan. 26. The event featured the cast of the local production of "Clybourne Park" sitting panel style in the College Center conference room discussing the subject matter of race relations.

"Clybourne Park" by Bruce Norris is a comedy that encompasses racism in the 1950s when a black family wants to buy a home in an all white neighborhood. The play then fast forwards to modern day when a white family moves into a predominately black neighborhood. The cast talked about their experiences with their characters and what they learned from the play. The presentation then opened the floor for questions and a mindful discussion took place.

Media was invited to the event and the Salina Journal featured the Diversity Tea on the front page of the paper.

For more information about this event, please contact David Hardman, diversity coordinator, at hardmand@ksu.edu.

As a campus diversity initiative, K-State Salina has sponsored the play "Clybourne Park" at the Salina Community Theatre.  With this sponsorship, the CEO's office has tickets to share with students, faculty, and staff during a special K-State only showing on February 12 at 7:00 pm. If you would like to attend, please email Kirsten Zoller, kzoller@ksu.edu, to reserve your tickets. Please respond by Thursday, February 5. You are welcome to bring a guest, please just include their name in the RSVP.

A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. K-State Salina's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

Congratulations on another successful Diversity Tea!
Congratulations to all those involved with planning yet another successful Diversity Tea on Jan. 26. This year's event featured the local cast of "Clybourne Park" discussing one of the main themes of the play, which led to a very insightful question and answer session afterward. The campus is still abuzz with conversation about the event. Thank you to the Multicultural Student Union who continues to provide thought-provoking and educational events for our campus.
