Dr. Kathleen Liang to conduct workshop on USDA grant process

Dr. Kathleen Liang will be on campus to conduct a workshop for faculty and community members on Feb. 3 at 3:30 p.m. in STC 120, examining how to create a successful USDA grant. The workshop will look at examples of different strategies used in proposals by integrating research, teaching and outreach through a multidisciplinary approach. She will also be speaking in Dr. Siny Joseph's economic classes on Feb. 3.

Dr. Kathleen Liang is a professor at the University of Vermont with interests in local food sustainability and small business initiatives. She received her bachelor's degree from National Taiwan University, and received both her master's and doctorate degrees from Purdue University.

Liang has designed, developed, and implemented the first Entrepreneurship program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in the United States, served in numerous leadership positions in more than 10 national organizations, received more than 35 awards in teaching, and has served as a speaker for 40 national as well as international events. In addition, she has published five books and 200 peer-reviewed articles relating to entrepreneurship, agriculture, and regional food systems all of which has helped her receive more than five million dollars in grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to conduct research in her studies.

For further information or any questions, please contact Dr. Siny Joseph, professor of economics, at siny@k-state.edu. nk

Speed bumps hope to create a safe campus environment

You may have noticed a few speed bumps recently placed around the campus roads. K-State Salina is hoping to make the campus a safer place for all drivers and pedestrians with these installations.

When approaching a speed bump, make sure to slow down when traveling over it. Do not try to go around the speed bump because that violates the Kansas State Statue 8-1507 and can result in a traffic citation costing $75 and a court fee costing $108.

For questions about these official traffic control devices, contact campus police sergeant Rick Honeycutt at 785-826-2903.
Recruiting for an active club

Attention all K-State Salina students that enjoy running or have a general interest in being active. Kate Otto and Danielle Brown are forming an active club on campus to promote the idea of being healthy and active together. This club will meet to form an exercise support group as well as lead different community events.

If any student is interested in joining, please contact Kate Otto at kmotto@ksu.edu or Danielle Brown at dnbrown@k-state.edu.

New logo unveiled to celebrate 50 years
K-State Salina will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, kicking off at Open House on April 11.

Currently the 50th anniversary committee is putting the final touches on all of the events to commemorate the campus's golden celebration. But what can be revealed is that there will be a celebration in both the spring and the fall. Also unveiled is the official logo of the 50th anniversary. A .jpg will be sent to all faculty and staff so that it can be used in everyone's email signature.

If you have questions about the 50th anniversary celebration or have an idea for an event, contact Kirsten Zoller at 785-826-7182. If you have questions about the campus's history, contact Julee Cobb at 785-826-2642.

A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. K-State Salina's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.
