Civic Luncheon Lecture Series announces its first presentation of the fall semester
K-State Salina's community lecture series, the Civic Luncheon Lecture, has just announced its first topic of presentation for the fall semester. "Blending Kansas Cultures: Immigration Trends, Policies, and Questions" will be held Thursday, September 11 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the College Center conference room. Michelle Stubblefield, state director for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) of Kansas, and Esther Pineda from the Catholic Diocese of Salina will be the special guests. Attendees can either bring a lunch or purchase a lunch from the K-State Salina Cafe while enjoying the conversation. K-State Salina library hiring tutors
Are you looking for a part time job? Do you fit into a leadership role? The K-State Salina library is currently looking to hire tutors for the Peer Tutoring Program. The position pays $8.00 an hour and has two to 10 hours open a week.

Applicants must be a K-State student currently enrolled in courses; must have taken the class you will be tutoring and earned a B or better in that class; must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher; and must have good communication and customer services skills.

Tutors will undergo a brief orientation, monthly professional development sessions, and will tutor students individually or in groups. Tutors will assist students in introductory and intermediate level courses (i.e. math, physics, and chemistry).

Please email Kate Otto at kmotto@ksu.edu to state your interest. She will set up a time with you to come to her office and fill out an application if you meet the minimum qualifications.
K-State Salina library book club members wanted
The K-State Salina library is looking to start a book club and needs your help. The library needs at least five students to start a club, and the hope is it is student run. Students can choose a meeting time that works best with their schedules and what books they would like to read. For more information, contact Kate Otto at 785.826.2637 or kmotto@ksu.edu.
Reminder for university policy on OSAS sales, solicitation and advertising
According to the Policy and Procedures Manual chapter 8580, facilities of Kansas State University are primarily for university purposes of instruction, research, and public service. They are not available for unrestricted use by non-university groups.

The regulation of commercial activity and the posting and distribution of advertising materials on the campus is necessary so that it does not interfere with the academic mission of the university, and so that income gained from activities held on campus benefits the university.

For more information, see PPM chapter 8580 (http://www.k-state.edu/policies/ppm/8500/8580.html).

Brazilian students' story makes KWCH Channel 12 news
K-State Salina's increase in its international student population, namely the Brazilian students, continues to make headlines as KWCH Channel 12 news from Wichita was on campus to film their story. Reporter, Anna Auld, interviewed several Brazilian students as well as Dixie Schierlman and Dr. Mark Jackson. To view the story, click here

HIGH-FIVE
A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. K-State Salina's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

Thank you Student Life team!
The first few weeks of school is an exciting time in a student's life, but it's also an influential time - it can set the tone for their year. In order to ensure our students have the full Wildcat experience, the student life team created a fun and engaging calendar of events and activities for everyone. I want to applaud you for working diligently to build an opening ceremony of sorts that introduces our students to life at K-State Salina. I have heard from numerous people how much the students are enjoying the activities. Great job!!
