K-State Salina blood drive
The first blood drive of the academic year for the Red Cross is September 3 and 4. Signup in the library for an appointment to donate blood. Your contribution can save up to three peoples' lives.
K-State Salina library hiring tutors
Are you looking for a part time job? Do you fit into a leadership role? The K-State Salina library is currently looking to hire tutors for the Peer Tutoring Program. The position pays $8.00 an hour and has two to 10 hours open a week.

Applicants must be a K-State student currently enrolled in courses; must have taken the class you will be tutoring and earned a B or better in that class; must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher; and must have good communication and customer services skills.

Tutors will undergo a brief orientation, monthly professional development sessions, and will tutor students individually or in groups. Tutors will assist students in introductory and intermediate level courses (i.e. math, physics, and chemistry).

Please email Kate Otto at kmotto@ksu.edu to state your interest. She will set up a time with you to come to her office and fill out an application if you meet the minimum qualifications.

K-State Salina library book club members wanted
The K-State Salina library is looking to start a book club and needs your help. The library needs at least five students to start a club, and the hope is it is student run. Students can choose a meeting time that works best with their schedules and what books they would like to read. For more information, contact Kate Otto at 785.826.2637 or kmotto@ksu.edu.
Reminder for university policy on OSAS sales, solicitation and advertising
According to the Policy and Procedures Manual chapter 8580, facilities of Kansas State University are primarily for university purposes of instruction, research, and public service. They are not available for unrestricted use by non-university groups.

The regulation of commercial activity and the posting and distribution of advertising materials on the campus is necessary so that it does not interfere with the academic mission of the university, and so that income gained from activities held on campus benefits the university.

For more information, see PPM chapter 8580 (http://www.k-state.edu/policies/ppm/8500/8580.html).
CATS Community Outreach Program created for influx of international students
This fall at K-State Salina there will be an increased number of international students on campus, including approximately 60 from Brazil as well as students from the Czech Republic and Japan. In order to give these students a well-rounded USA and K-State experience, the CATS Community Outreach Program has been created.

K-State Salina is looking for families or church groups or community organizations to commit to sharing traditions with these students: taking them to sporting events, a play, a concert or a local festival, or sharing a holiday or family dinner with them. If you would like to participate or know someone that would, contact Dixie Schierlman at 785-826-2643 or dixies@ksu.edu.

ICYMI - In Case You Missed It
Student visitor from Sias University in China
International student Zinia was on the K-State Salina campus August 14 to learn about airport management. Zinia is a student at Sias University in Xinzheng, China. Dean Fitzsimmons visited Sias University last October to give a presentation about our school.
International students arrive on campus
K-State Salina has boosted its population of international students this year, primarily with 55 new students from Brazil. On August 19, about fifty of those students as well as two from the Czech Republic arrived on campus after spending about a month and a half in Manhattan working on their English-speaking skills. The students received a warm welcome from a variety of K-Staters - faculty, staff and students - and then immediately headed into the K-State Cafe for an all-American dinner. Finally, resident assistants helped each student get settled in to their dorm room.
Convocation officially marks new school year
K-State Salina held Convocation on August 23 for all new students, their families, faculty and staff to signify the beginning of a new school year and the start of the new students' journey as a Wildcat.

During the ceremony, Dean Fitzsimmons welcomed the group, Dr. Kurt Barnhart educated everyone on the school's land grant history and mission, and Dixie Schierlman talked about the student experience. Guest speakers for the event included SGA vice president Zach Freeman and Bryon Williams from the office of admissions in Manhattan.
HIGH-FIVE
A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. K-State Salina's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

Thank you Student Governing Association!
I want to say a very big THANK YOU to the Student Governing Association (SGA) and the K-State Salina student body - your thoughtfulness has resulted in an additional 16 trees planted on our campus.
Congratulations Barney King!
Congratulations to professor and interim aviation department head Barney King who was presented with the Paul A. Whelan award at the Aviation Accreditation Board International's annual awards banquet on July 17. This is another awesome example of the caliber of faculty and staff we are honored to have serving on the Salina campus!
