Turn a Working Lunch into a Walking Lunch
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is sponsoring the eighth annual National Walk at Lunch Day on Wednesday, April 30, to encourage busy people to turn a working lunch into a walking lunch. The rally and walk event will begin at noon at Salina's Campbell Plaza.

Walking is one of the easiest and most effective forms of exercise. Taking a brisk, 30-minute walk on a regular basis can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart attack and type-2 diabetes.

Download pre-designed promotional materials for the event at http://bcbsks.com/CustomerService/Employers/tools.htm. A limited number of free event T-shirts are available to participants.

ICYMI - In Case You Missed It
Aviation Panel Educates Faculty and Students
In honor of K-State Salina's Alumni Fellow celebration, members of the faculty and our fellow sat on a panel to discuss the future of the aviation industry. Close to 100 K-State Salina students, faculty and staff listened as the members of the panel addressed questions like, will a K-State Salina student's aviation curriculum change in the coming years, what does the future job market look like and what advances in aviation technology are developing?

The members of the panel - Tim Rogers, executive director of the Salina Airport Authority and adjunct professor, Stephen Ley, aviation maintenance program lead, Weston Thompson, 2014 Alumni Fellow, Dr. Kurt Barnhart, aviation department head and executive director of the Applied Aviation Research Center, and Drew Smith, associate professor in aviation maintenance - answered each question with the perspective of each of their different backgrounds.

Thompson, the 2014 Alumni Fellow, is a K-State Salina graduate of the professional pilot program in 2004 and the aviation maintenance program in 2006. He is the co-owner of Scott City Aviation and a pilot, mechanic and instructor.
Campus Announcements
Library Book Drive
Have used books lying around? Donate them to the book drive!

The library will be hosting a book drive from now until May 16 to collect both new and used books through Better World Books. If the bookstore doesn't want them, you can't sell them back on Amazon or they're out of date or highlighted, please consider donating your books to this wonderful cause.

Place the books in the bins located around campus or bring your books to the library. Have an office or car-full? We'll be right over to collect them for you!

All the books will go towards helping the National Center for Family Literacy, a nationwide program designed to help disadvantaged children and parents become better readers.

For more information, email [email protected].
Summer Discover Programs for K-12
Discover programs are now open for registration!

K-State Salina Discover programs are learning based programs for K-12 students. Discover programs educate and inspire youth in a fun and interactive environment. Participants enhance their knowledge while experiencing what K-State Salina has to offer in a variety of programs and settings.

If you know of a child that falls into the K-12 age group, please consider checking out the programs offered this summer, and pre-register at http://www.salina.k-state.edu/dce/discover/.
Electronic Recycling Event
Information Systems on the K-State Salina campus has offered to help anyone wanting to participate in the city of Salina's electronic recycling event wipe old data from their items.

The electronic recycling event will be Saturday, May 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the west parking lot at Salina South High School. If you're thinking about dropping off an old computer, stop by the Information Systems office first and they will make sure that any personal information on the hard drive can't be retrieved.

For more information, contact Tony Hoover at 785.826.2660 or [email protected].
HIGH-FIVE
A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. K-State Salina's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

Congratulations Ben Crabtree & Khaled Abduljabbar!
Digital media students Benjamin Crabtree and Khaled Abduljabbar entered a national poster design contest sponsored by ABET and both placed! Benjamin won FIRST place and Khaled won SECOND place, both in the "Engineering Technology" category. You should be very proud of your hard work and how well you represented the university!
