Flight Team Hosts Safety Seminar
The Flight Team will be hosting a short safety seminar on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the College Center conference room. Social Work Wildcats' Zombie Run
The Social Work Wildcats are holding their first 5K Zombie Run! The race is on Saturday, May 3, 2014 and registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The run will follow at 10 a.m. and the course will be on the Kansas State University Salina campus. Participants are encouraged to dress up like zombies!

Turn a Working Lunch into a Walking Lunch
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is sponsoring the eighth annual National Walk at Lunch Day on Wednesday, April 30, to encourage busy people to turn a working lunch into a walking lunch. The rally and walk event will begin at noon at Salina's Campbell Plaza.
Walking is one of the easiest and most effective forms of exercise. Taking a brisk, 30-minute walk on a regular basis can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart attack and type-2 diabetes.

Last Civic Luncheon Lecture of the Semester
This semester's last Civic Luncheon Lecture will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. in the College Center conference room. The topic is entitled "Technology, Civility and News: Where Are We Headed?" and will feature local media on the panel.
Ben Wearing, executive editor of the Salina Journal, Matt Moody, founder and digital media director of the Salina Post, and Paul Green, faculty member and media production manager at Kansas Wesleyan University, will all be a part of the discussion while Bryan Thompson, a reporter for Kansas Public Radio, will moderate.
Bring your lunch to the lecture or buy your lunch at the K-State Cafe and bring it into the conference room.

Scholarship Opportunity for Aviation Students
The Kansas City Business Aviation Association is offering two $3,000 scholarships to aviation students interested in a career in corporate/business aviation. Applicants must attach two essays that answer the following questions: 1. What most interests you about a career in Corporate/Business Aviation? (400 words or less) 2. How would this scholarship help you? (400 words or less)

AVIATION 1. $3,000 - Patrick Marzitelli Science and Aviation Foundation scholarship - For students who are employed by a Fixed Base Operator (FBO). Must have 2.5 GPA and demonstrable interest in aviation. DEADLINE - May 21, 2014 2. $500 - Eugene S. Kropf Scholarship - For students in aviation-related program. Must have 3.0 GPA and be sophomore or greater. DEADLINE - May 31, 2014 3. $2,000 - Paul A. Whelan Aviation Scholarship - For students in aviation-related program. Must have 2.5 GPA with a 3.0 GPA in aviation course. Must be a sophomore or greater. DEADLINE - May 15, 2014 4. Air Traffic Control Association Scholarships - Variety of different scholarships for students in aviation-related majors. Must have a minimum of 30 hours still to be completed before graduation. DEADLINE- May 1, 2014 5. Charlie Wells Memorial Aviation Scholarship - Must be full-time student majoring in an aviation oriented curriculum. DEADLINE - April 30, 2014
PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING 1. $5,000 Mass Mutual Scholarship - Preference given to those pursing career in the insurance and financial services industry. Must be a sophomore or greater and must have 3.0 GPA. DEADLINE - May 2, 2014
ETHNIC MINORITY 1. $1,850 - Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship - For Kansas residents who are African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian or Pacific Islander, or Hispanic. Must have 2.0 GPA. DEADLINE - May 1, 2014 2. $1,000-$3,000 - SHPE Foundation Scholarship - Hispanic students who have a 2.75 GPA. Must be enrolled full-time in a science, technology, engineering or math degree program. DEADLINE - May 1, 2014
VETERANS 1. Kansas Military Service Scholarship - For Kansas residents who served after 9/11 in international waters or on foreign soil for at least 90 days, received honorable discharge or under honorable conditions or is still in military service. DEADLINE - May 1, 2014

Student Leaders Attend Peer Mentor Institute
K-State Salina student leaders from various clubs and organizations attended the Peer Mentor Institute a few weeks ago at Fort Hays State University. The 18 students sat in on various sessions learning about peer mentoring, connecting with international students, utilizing social media, and networking. Interim Assistant Director of Student Services, Amy Sellers said, "What our student leaders learned at this conference will not only transform K-State Salina's campus, but the information will also be passed on to other students as well."

Professor's Work Published
K-State Salina assistant professor of economics, Dr. Siny Joseph, was recently featured in an IEEE publication. She is the author of "Towards Environmentally Sustainable Mobile Computing Through an Economic Framework" and it was printed in IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing. IEEE is the world's largest professional association for the advancement of technology.
