ICYMI: In Case You Missed It
Residence Hall is officially Schilling Hall
After approval from the Kansas Board of Regents on March 12, the building simply known as Residence Hall for the last 20 years on campus will now be called Schilling Hall.

The change comes after several students expressed their confusion over the literally named Residence Hall, saying an actual name would make it easier to distinguish between it and the other residence hall, Harbin Hall. The Student Governing Association then solicited name suggestions from the student body, and the K-State Salina Student Senate voted on the final decision. Schilling Hall was chosen as a nod to the past when the campus was first Schilling Air Force Base and later Schilling Institute.

Once Dean Fitzsimmons approved the residence hall name change, it was submitted to the Kansas Board of Regents to become official.

The K-State Salina Residence Hall Association will be offering a walk-through to the community of one of the upgraded rooms in Harbin Hall on March 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Residence Hall Association is asking for feedback on the current upgrade as they move forward with renovations to other rooms.

Changes to residence life publications and housing contracts with the new Schilling Hall name will begin immediately and the sign in front of the hall is expected to change sometime in May. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is also planned, but no date has been set yet.

Barnhart speaks at KU Dole Institute

Kurt Barnhart, the executive director of the Applied Aviation Research Center and the aviation department head, was asked to be a featured speaker by the University of Kansas Dole Institute of Politics during their inaugural Innovations Series. On March 11, Barnhart joined KU assistant professor of aerospace engineering, Shawn Keshmiri, and Bill Donovan of Pulse Aerospace on a panel discussing non-military operations for UAS during a program entitled, "Branching Out: Exploring New Uses for Drones."

Casino Night Pics
Thank you to all our high-rolling students who came out to Casino Night and made it a success once again! Also, a shout out to all of those who volunteered as dealers and to anyone who had a hand in making the night run smoothly.

Upward Bound Program Welcomes Newest Staff Member

The Upward Bound Program is excited to announce that Dawn Smith is the new senior administrative assistant.  She joined the Upward Bound Program in mid-February.

Dawn has extensive experience in grant administration, database management and business administration support. In her spare time, Dawn enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and serving the Salina community as a volunteer to various organizations. Dawn participates in the YMCA Strong Kids fundraising campaign each year which helps with scholarships to Camp Wood and yearly memberships. The children of the Salina community greatly benefit from the campaign.

Dawn is currently in her second three-year term as a Salina Arts and Humanities Commissioner and was recently appointed as out-going "Past President" of the Board. She has been volunteering with the Smoky Hill River Festival for several years and she is currently on the Food Jury Committee that meets several times throughout the year to plan and prepare for the annual festival each June.

Please welcome Dawn to K-State Salina!

HIGH-FIVE
A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. K-State Salina's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

Thank You Student Governing Association
The Student Governing Association has been hard at work making things happen on K-State Salina's campus and I want to recognize all of your efforts. Thank you for installing the new water bottle refilling stations around campus. In a world where so many people and organizations are trying to go green, I applaud you for creating a way that our university can contribute to helping the environment.

I also want to congratulate you on the finalization of the Residence Hall name change. You listened to the students' needs and concerns, and spearheaded this project from the beginning. Great job!
