A Glance at the Upward Bound Program Fall Activities
Mrs. Booker and Ms. Wills are the newest additions to the Upward Bound Program, and they have chosen to dive in head first with daily operations of the Upward Bound Program as well as planning events for the 2013-2014 academic year. On October 26, 2013, the Upward Bound Program had their New Scholar Orientation, and they hosted for nine new students. Currently, the program is serving 50 area scholars from Newton (17), Clay Center (9), Lincoln (9), and Ell-Saline (15) High School. Thus, the Upward Bound Program is so excited to have a full roster of 50 students.

Also noteworthy, Mrs. Booker and Ms. Wills attended the Trio Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOPP) 39th Annual Professional Development Conference in Columbus, OH, on November 3-6, 2013. The conference activities ranged from concurrent sessions by Trio professionals and subject matter experts, program roundtables for best practices, and featured speakers from the Council for Opportunity in Education and the U.S. Department of Education. Mrs. Booker and Ms. Wills will apply the knowledge gained from the conference to empower their students to achieve academic success, promote active parent involvement, strengthening our involvement and collaboration in the K-State Salina community, and work toward the continued success of the Upward Bound Program. Additionally, in support of the Salina community, the Upward Bound Program students participated in the Parade of Lights on November 23, 2013.
