Campus Activities
Multicultural Tasting Fair 
The Multicultural Connection Committee is pleased to announce the annual
Multicultural Tasting Fair will be held on Wednesday, November 20th from
11:30am-1:30pm.

Please share your culinary expertise by bringing a culturally inspired dish
to the Tech Center Lobby on that morning. This event will be held in
conjunction with International Education Week, celebrated November 17-21. 

We would like the entries to include extra information about the culture
they come from. This could include an artifact, music, informational
handouts, or clothing - anything you feel represents your culture! Please
encourage students to participate as well!!

Please send the name of your dish and the recipe to me at kimms@ksu.edu by Monday, November 18th so that I may have copies prepared.

We look forward to having even more entries this year!
Candy Canes and Airplanes
Candy Canes and Airplanes will be held on Saturday,December 7at the Salina Airport. This is a community event sponsored by K-State Salina and the Salina Airport Authority. Families from the community will be in attendance to see Santa and and participate in activities at K-State student club booths.

COLLEGE SOPHOMORES OR HIGHER
1. The Salina Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1432 is offering a scholarship. Application forms can be picked up in Room 208G College Center. Open to any student, any major as long as they are a sophomore or higher. (You do not need to be a member or child of a member of the VFW. You also do not have to be a Salina resident to apply.)

1. The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship is open for applications. Preference given to residents of Kansas, Missouri or Illinois. Must have a "B" average. Award is $2500 to be used towards initial or primary flight training.

2. Helicopter Foundation International is offering scholarships to maintenance students ($1,600-$2,500) and students working on their commercial helicopter rating ($5,000).

3. Pioneers of Flight Scholarship is offering a scholarship to a sophomore or junior enrolled full-time in an aviation degree program with a 3.0 or better gpa. They must be able to demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in general aviation. The scholarship is worth $1,000.

Student Loan Repayment Opportunity

Rural Opportunity Zones are 73 counties that have been authorized to offer one or both of the following financial incentives to new full-time residents:

Who's Eligible?

To be eligible for Kansas income tax waivers, individuals must have:

An internship with Southwest Airlines is helping a Kansas State University aviation student put what she learned in the classroom to good use.

Brooke Roman, senior in professional pilot from Nixa, Mo., has been serving a four-month internship with Southwest Airlines at its headquarters in Dallas since Sept. 9.

'Tis the season for group projects!

The season for final projects and presentations is upon us! Need a place to collaborate with classmates on a class project or group presentation? How about a distraction-free space for tutoring? The library now has TWO spaces for group projects and meetings! The Community Room is available on a walk-in and reservation basis and includes a large conference table seating eight people, as well as a podium and two flat-screen monitors for laptop hookup. The Group Study Room is available on a walk-in basis only and has seating for four people and a whiteboard. Reservations for the Community Room may be made in the library or through libhelp@ksu.edu.

Or maybe just a quiet space to eat your lunch? Check out the Library's Quiet Room! The library now offers an expanded quiet study space featuring individual study carrels, computers and new comfortable seating for students, faculty and staff. Located in the back of the library near the magazine collection, use this space to get away from the hustle and bustle of the campus community!

The schedule is already out for Spring 2014! It's never too early to start thinking about the research needs of you and your students for next semester!

Whether it's new to you or new to campus, we want to provide excellent resources for all classes so drop us a line if we're missing something from our stacks that your students will need to be successful. If you know what you need for the spring semester, let us know ASAP so we can order it and have it ready in time for the first day of classes. 

Are you working on new research?
Whether it's a literature review you're halfway through, or new research you're just beginning, the library would be happy to find materials for your professional and scholarly research interests. 

So gather your Amazon print-outs, your catalogs covered in Post-its or your highlighted flyers and get your wish list to me so I can get your books and DVDs ordered and processed as soon as possible so they will be ready when the semester begins. You may send them via campus mail, in a digital list via email or stop by the library and drop them off in person. If you come across materials that you would like purchased in support of your curriculum, please stop by the library or emailhblackbu@ksu.edu anytime through out the semester.

Coffee with the Dean

"Coffee with the Dean" will be on the first Friday of every month, in the morning. The goal of this is to have a nice open forum time in the community where she is available to anyone and can answer any questions anyone has, discuss campus happenings, etc. The inaugural coffee talk will be Friday, December 6, 7:30 am to 9:00 am at Moka's downtown. Please join us for any part of this, as it is come and go and we would value your support. 

Participants Needed for Online Survey about Communication in Post-Divorce Military Families

You are invited to participate in a research study designed to help in understanding how post-divorce military families communicate. You may be eligible to participate in this survey if you meet the following criteria: you are divorced, you have a child or children from that marriage and your children are 17-years-old or younger, and you or your ex-partner is active duty military. 

The online survey will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete and you will have the opportunity at the end of the survey to enter into a drawing to win one of 4 $50 gift cards. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to volunteer to participate in an interview and receive $30 for your interview participation. To participate in the survey, please click  here.

All information provided will remain confidential, and participation is voluntary. This research study has been approved by the Kansas State University Institutional Review Board.
