Wednesday, October 30 at the Showplex Cinema!

Candy Canes and Airplanes
Candy Canes and Airplanes will be held on Saturday, December 7 at the Salina Airport. This is a community event sponsored by K-State Salina and the Salina Airport Authority. Families from the community will be in attendance to see Santa and and participate in activities at K-State student club booths.

Student clubs are invited to host a holiday themed booth and may use this as a fundraiser. Clubs interested in submitting a proposal to host a booth for fundraising during this event should contact Kirsten Zoller at [email protected] for an application. Applications are due November 7.

COLLEGE SOPHOMORES OR HIGHER
1. The Salina Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1432 is offering a scholarship. Application forms can be picked up in Room 208G College Center. Open to any student, any major as long as they are a sophomore or higher. (You do not need to be a member or child of a member of the VFW. You also do not have to be a Salina resident to apply.)

AVIATION RELATED
1. The National Business Aviation Association is offering a variety of different scholarships. The UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship is one of those. Through the UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship, NBAA annually awards $1,000 to each of five undergraduates studying aviation-related curricula.

2. The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship is open for applications. Preference given to residents of Kansas, Missouri or Illinois. Must have a "B" average. Award is $2500 to be used towards initial or primary flight training.

3. Women in Aviation if offering a number of scholarships again (both men and women can apply). We have had K-State students receive scholarships from this organization in the past.

4. Helicopter Foundation International is offering scholarships to maintenance students ($1,600-$2,500) and students working on their commercial helicopter rating ($5,000).

5. The Kansas Association of Airports is offering a $1,500 scholarship to students in the airport management field.

Aviation Scholarship
The ISTAT Foundation is actively engaged in helping young people develop potential careers in aviation by offering scholarships up to $10,000 for the benefit of college-level students who are academically qualified, are in need of financial support to complete their studies and will be a student in calendar year 2014. DEADLINE has been extended to November 2. Submit completed applications to Dr. Kurt Barnhart or Cindy Newell.
 
Student Loan Repayment Opportunity
Thanks to the new Rural Opportunity Zones program, there's never been a better time than now to make rural Kansas your new home. If you're looking for lower cost of living and better quality of life, Kansas is your best choice.

Rural Opportunity Zones are 73 counties that have been authorized to offer one or both of the following financial incentives to new full-time residents:
Kansas income tax waivers for up to five years
Student loan repayments up to $15,000

Who's Eligible?

To be eligible for Kansas income tax waivers, individuals must have:
established residency in a ROZ county on or after July 1, 2011
lived outside Kansas for five or more years immediately prior to establishing residency in a ROZ county
earned less than $10,000 in Kansas Source Income in each of the five years immediately prior to establishing residency in a ROZ county

To be eligible for student loan repayments, individuals must:

establish residency in a ROZ county after July 1, 2011 and on or after the date on which the county opts-in to the student loan program
hold an associate's, bachelor's or post-graduate degree
have an outstanding student loan balance

SafeZone Fall Training: Cultural Competence: Understanding and Eradicating Stereotypes

West Virginia University's Institutional Review Board acknowledgement of this project is on file. This study is being conducted by a student and faculty member in the Child Development and Family Studies program within the College of Education and Human Services at West Virginia University.
