Candy Canes and Airplanes
Candy Canes and Airplanes will be held on Saturday, December 7 at the Salina Airport. This is a community event sponsored by K-State Salina and the Salina Airport Authority. Families from the community will be in attendance to see Santa and and participate in activities at K-State student club booths.

Student clubs are invited to host a holiday themed booth and may use this as a fundraiser. Clubs interested in submitting a proposal to host a booth for fundraising during this event should contact Kirsten Zoller at kzoller@k-state.edu for an application. Applications are due November 7.

Scholarship Opportunities
1. The Salina Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1432 is offering a scholarship. Application forms can be picked up in Room 208G College Center. Open to any student, any major as long as they are a sophomore or higher. (You do not need to be a member or child of a member of the VFW. You also do not have to be a Salina resident to apply.)

1. K-State's Division of Continuing Education is offering scholarships to distance education students.

1. The National Business Aviation Association is offering a variety of different scholarships. The UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship is one of those. Through the UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship, NBAA annually awards $1,000 to each of five undergraduates studying aviation-related curricula.

2. The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship is open for applications. Preference given to residents of Kansas, Missouri or Illinois. Must have a "B" average. Award is $2500 to be used towards initial or primary flight training.

3. Women in Aviation if offering a number of scholarships again (both men and women can apply). We have had K-State students receive scholarships from this organization in the past.

4. Helicopter Foundation International is offering scholarships to maintenance students ($1,600-$2,500) and students working on their commercial helicopter rating ($5,000).

5. The Kansas Association of Airports is offering a $1,500 scholarship to students in the airport management field.

Student Loan Repayment Opportunity
Thanks to the new Rural Opportunity Zones program, there's never been a better time than now to make rural Kansas your new home. If you're looking for lower cost of living and better quality of life, Kansas is your best choice.

Rural Opportunity Zones are 73 counties that have been authorized to offer one or both of the following financial incentives to new full-time residents:
Kansas income tax waivers for up to five years
Student loan repayments up to $15,000

Who's Eligible?

To be eligible for Kansas income tax waivers, individuals must have:
established residency in a ROZ county on or after July 1, 2011
lived outside Kansas for five or more years immediately prior to establishing residency in a ROZ county
earned less than $10,000 in Kansas Source Income in each of the five years immediately prior to establishing residency in a ROZ county

To be eligible for student loan repayments, individuals must:

establish residency in a ROZ county after July 1, 2011 and on or after the date on which the county opts-in to the student loan program
hold an associate's, bachelor's or post-graduate degree
have an outstanding student loan balance

Interacting with Difficult Visitors (WTD160)

Interacting with Difficult Visitors (WTD160) October 23rd from 2:00 - 3:30 PM in the College Center Conference Room.

Office staff is often the first contact that individuals have with a department. There are times when individuals who come to the office are frustrated
and/or angry and lash out. This session will provide de-escalating communication strategies, methods of dealing with a difficult or threatening person,as well as information on dealing with suspicious persons. 

Heather Reed and Laurel Koch from the Office of Student Life will be the presenters for these sessions.

Ten Weeks Left to Complete the Secure IT Training

All K-State employees (faculty, staff, and student workers) are required to complete the 2013 security awareness training during the calendar year.

The training takes about 20 minutes and becomes part of your HRIS record. Encourage people in your area to read this.

A Vision In Action Promotional Campaign
K-State Salina is launching another promotional campaign targeted at the Salina and surrounding areas.  The goal is to let the community know that the campus is moving forward and has a plan and vision for our future.  Over the the next 10 weeks, look for radio, newspaper, e-newsltter, and digital advertising along with on-air interviews with Dean Fitzsimmons on Oct 7, Nov. 4, and Nov. 17 on 1150 KSAL at 8.25 a.m.  Feel free to participate in this campaign by telling our story to others.

to offer bachelor's degrees


Students at Salina Area Technical College have new options for earning bachelor's degrees thanks to a new partnership with Kansas State University Salina. K-State Salina and SATC have three 2+2 agreements that allow students to complete a Kansas State University bachelor's degree while staying in the community or taking classes online.

Please consider participating in a survey that will help us understand how intimate partner violence is perceived. You can access the survey here

West Virginia University's Institutional Review Board acknowledgement of this project is on file. This study is being conducted by a student and faculty member in the Child Development and Family Studies program within the College of Education and Human Services at West Virginia University.
