Mini Stress Free Week
Stressed out about midterms? Need a stress reliever? Then come check out the following Stress Relieving Events this week:

K-State Salina is proud to sponsor the South vs. Central Tailgate
Friday, October 18 K-State Salina will besponsoring a tailgate at the Salina South vs. Salina Central football game. Everyone is invited to come out to the Salina Stadium and get free Call Hall ice cream! Willie will also be making an appearance at the tailgate from 6-7 p.m.

Scholarship Opportunities
1. The Salina Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1432 is offering a scholarship. Application forms can be picked up in Room 208G College Center. Open to any student, any major as long as they are a sophomore or higher. (You do not need to be a member or child of a member of the VFW. You also do not have to be a Salina resident to apply.)

1. K-State's Division of Continuing Education is offering scholarships to distance education students.

1. Freshman Education Abroad Scholarship - Up to 10 recipients per year will be awarded $750 to help cover the cost of tuition and fees for enrollment in a Global Issues & Perspecitives course. An additional $2,000 will be available to those awarded the $750 scholarship, to help fund a study abroad experience on an approved K-State study abroad program.

2. Variety of scholarships for those interested in studying abroad.

1. The National Business Aviation Association is offering a variety of different scholarships. The UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship is one of those. Through the UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship, NBAA annually awards $1,000 to each of five undergraduates studying aviation-related curricula.
Deadline: NOVEMBER 1

2. The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship is open for applications. Preference given to residents of Kansas, Missouri or Illinois. Must have a "B" average. Award is $2500 to be used towards initial or primary flight training.

3. Women in Aviation if offering a number of scholarships again (both men and women can apply). We have had K-State students receive scholarships from this organization in the past.

4. Helicopter Foundation International is offering scholarships to maintenance students ($1,600-$2,500) and students working on their commercial helicopter rating ($5,000).

5. The Kansas Association of Airports is offering a $1,500 scholarship to students in the airport management field.

Interacting with Difficult Visitors (WTD160) October 23rdfrom 2:00 - 3:30 PM in the College Center Conference Room

Office staff is often the first contact that individuals have with a department. There are times when individuals who come to the office are frustrated 

and/or angry and lash out. This session will provide de-escalating communication strategies, methods of dealing with a difficult or threatening person, 

as well as information on dealing with suspicious persons. 

Heather Reed and Laurel Koch from the Office of Student Life will be the presenters for these sessions.

Star Wars Reads Day II a Success!

The biggest fans on campus turned out for a day dedicated to reading and the Force on Star Wars Reads Day II, held onOctober 4th. Sponsored by Lucasfilm and the K-State Salina Library, students, faculty and staff were invited to discover new Star Wars titles, sample Star Wars cupcakes, and view the double library display cases full of memorabilia on loan from K-State faculty and staff and Star Wars books and movies. Star Wars prizes were also given out all week randomly to Facebook fans, as well as Twitter followers and Pinterest fans. Photos of some of the contest winners may be seen on the library's Facebook page. 

A big thank you to all of our students, faculty and staff who participated inthis day and made it a success. Maythe Force be with you!

A Vision In Action Promotional Campaign
K-State Salina is launching another promotional campaign targeted at the Salina and surrounding areas.  The goal is to let the community know that the campus is moving forward and has a plan and vision for our future.  Over the the next 10 weeks, look for radio, newspaper, e-newsltter, and digital advertising along with on-air interviews with Dean Fitzsimmons on Oct 7, Nov. 4, and Nov. 17 on 1150 KSAL at 8.25 a.m.  Feel free to participate in this campaign by telling our story to others.

Inspired by a character in a storybook, third-graders at Coronado Elementary School set out to determine what they consider to be the 7 wonders of Salina.  Kansas State University Salina is honored to have been selected by the students as one of the 7 most wondrous places in the city.

Paperbacks, old textbooks, industry publications, previous bestsellers and Oprah Book Club titles, we want them all! Just drop them off in the library or let us know you have some to give away and we'll pick them up from your car or office.
