K-State Shred Day is Oct. 15
K-State is planning its annual Shred Day for university paper records. The event is scheduled 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 15, on the Salina campus. The loading area will be in the service and delivery area between the east and west wings of the Technology Center. Departments that cannot bring their documents to the loading area at that time can contact Information Systems at 785-826-2666.Departments will be asked to place paper documents with personal identity information - such as Social Security numbers, birth dates, credit card numbers, etc. - in designated bags to be delivered to the truck at the above location.For security reasons, do not leave collection bags or materials for shredding unattended in the hallways. Departmental contacts will be asked to sign an authorization document giving permission to Document Resources Inc. to accept, destroy and recycle materials.Documents to shred include:- Scantron forms- Greenbar grade sheets- Rosters printed from K-State Online, iSIS, SIS, etc.- Student papers with personal identity information and grades- Data with credit card information- Personnel files- Other sensitive papers with identity or financial informationBefore destroying any documents, departments should review the Retention of Records policy. The length of time to retain specific documents is available from the Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. For additional clarification about the Records Retention and Disposition Schedule, contact Cliff Hight, university archivist at 785-532-3420 or chight@k-state.edu.Document Resources Inc. is on state contract, so pickup of documents is available at other times during the year.

 Dr. Charles Weathers Guest Presentation Dr. Charles Weathers, Professor of Economics at Ozaka City University, Japan, presented a guest lecture at K-State Salina, on Monday, September 16. The presentation focused on labor problems of Japanese women and non-regular workers, and the comparative analysis of union activities in Japan, the US, and Australia. Weathers holds a BA in English and French from the University of Kansas and a PhD in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. His main research interests are the Recent publications include "America's Labor Union Movement" (2010, in Japanese) and "In Search of Strategic Partners: Japan's Campaign for Equal Opportunity" (Social Science Japan Journal, 2005).

Early Bird Registration Deadline for Kansas Unmanned Systems Conference
The Kansas Unmanned Systems (CKUS) Conference early bird registration deadline is September 16th. Don't miss out! Seating is limited! Go to www.ksu.edu/ckus for details and registration information.The conference is intended to be an action oriented venue aimed at identifying and discussing critical challenges and opportunities that are evidenced in the emerging unmanned systems industry at the local, regional, state, national and international levels. This conference will provide an interactive and experiential agenda with topics to include airspace, policy, applications and industry perspectives.A brief overview of what's going on at the conference, Oct. 14-16, 2013:Day 1: Poster sessions and exhibits at a social mixer 'Meet and Greet' with state, national, and international colleagues from government, industry and academia. Day 2: Filled with an array of presentations, discussions, and breakout sessions. Speakers include:Major General Lee Tafanelli, Office of the Adjutant General, Kansas;Mr. Michael Toscano, President and CEO, AUVSI; andMr. Randy Willis, FAA.Day 3: Roundtable discussions, supported by facilitators who will help each group develop and deliver results from group sessions.Meeting key U.S. and international "Grand Challenges" in autonomous and aviation systems research, development, and integration through focused efforts from Kansas Government, Academic Institutions, and Industry partners.
