Movement and nourishment have a direct relationship to one another and they are both essential for optimal health. We must properly nourish ourselves to maximize the time we spend in our exercise programs and to have optimal repair and/or growth of metabolically active tissue, like muscle. Our best strategy is always to eat real food (foods without a label, or if it has a label, all the ingredients can be found in nature, not a laboratory). Sounds simple, but sometimes it's more challenging when we try to apply it. We often quickly realize how much we rely on processed food when we try to eliminate it.
We see this especially in the area of fitness fuel... things like energy drinks, bars, gels, "goo"s. The marketing science behind these "food-like products" may entice you to use them, and maybe you have used them for years, feeling that they have fueled you just fine, but we promise that there is a better alternative in real food. Choosing real food provides your body only with what it needs, and nothing it doesn't. Just read the ingredient list on your "energy" product. Can you say CARNAUBA WAX and PROPYLENE GLYCOL? Yes, you might associate these substances with your car, but it might also be in your exercise "fuel". Even if you don't find these on the ingredient list of your favorite sport drink/bar, we bet you find things like refined sugar in all it's sneaky forms and highly processed oils that are more of a burden to your body that healthy fuel.
Another great benefit to making your own real food fitness fuel is that it gives you the ability to modify the ingredients to meet your bio-individual needs because we know that there is no one-size-fits-all formula. We invite you to watch our quick video clip showing you how simple it can be to make your personalized fitness fuel to maximize your energy and your wallet, too.
