MESSAGE FROM COMMISSIONER CONNIE HUDSON
GOVERNMENT PLAZA TO BE REFURBISHED
After nearly 22 years since its opening in 1994, Mobile Government Plaza is scheduled to be renovated and refurbished. On Monday, November 23, 2015, the Mobile County Commission will vote to approve a $979,051 contract with Sycamore Construction, Inc. to begin work on the proposed improvements. The scope of work will include cleaning and polishing the granite slab floors and walls, the cleaning and/or replacement of exterior atrium glass windows, the addition of a canopy fabric feature and tables, chairs and benches in the atrium. Also, replacement of audience seating in the auditorium, along with new handrails, carpet and painting, North Tower ground floor and mezzanine security improvements , and South Tower 10th floor lobby renovations to include new flooring and furnishings. Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, Inc. in conjunction with Jill Rawls of Interior Concepts, Inc. is providing the architectural and interior master planning design services.
Also, the Gulfquest National Maritime Museum is offering a rare chance for citizens and visitors to tour a full-scale replica of a 16th century Spanish tall ship. It will be docked at the museum in Mobile from Friday, November 20th to Sunday, November 29th, and open from 10 am to 6 pm daily. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and free for children under age 5. This is a great opportunity to experience maritime history. The ship carries an all-Spanish crew that lives and breathes the history of the ship and her travels.
May you and your family have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
Warmest Regards,
Connie
