AIRBUS U.S. MANUFACTURING FACILITY OPENING

September 14, 2015 marks the long-awaited opening of operations at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility at the Brookley Mobile Aeroplex.

Over three years ago, on July 2, 2012, the Airbus senior management team announced the history-making decision to create an A320 Family jetliner final assembly line in Mobile, which would become the company's first production site in America.

In April of 2013 construction began on the $600 million facility, with aircraft assembly scheduled to begin in 2015, and the first delivery scheduled for 2016. At full capability, the assembly line and associated facilities will employ approximately 1,000 workers. That figure does not include employees for the aerospace industry suppliers that will continue to locate in the Mobile area.

Prior to the Inauguration of operations, slated for September 14, Airbus is sponsoring a public celebration on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Mobile Aeroplex from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The celebration will include the second annual Brookley 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Run, Kid Zones, Post-Race party and Airbus celebration event that includes live music by the Tip Tops. Click Here to view the schedule of events or Click Here to register for the 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Run.

Congratulations Airbus! We are grateful for your partnership and investment in our community.

Warmest Regards,
Connie

MCKEMIE PLACE

Founded in 2007, McKemie Place is the only overnight shelter for single, homeless women in all of Mobile, Washington and Baldwin Counties. Their first guests were given shelter in March of 2007 as a service under the United Methodist Inner City Mission, thanks to the efforts of the late Jamie Praytor. On February 19, 2015, McKemie Place became a Partner Agency with United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA).

The shelter is a safe haven for homeless women. They currently have a 69-bed capacity and provide a place for women to temporarily stay overnight. Through the gracious assistance of dedicated volunteers, who prepare, bring and serve evening meals, they are also able to serve dinner each evening to their Guests.

While some women are struggling to get back on their own two feet, some have jobs and go to work each day. But, all find comfort, friendship and spiritual support as they seek to rebound from the challenges life has thrown their way.

McKemie Place operates under the guidance of a Board of Directors, with Executive Director Jessica James overseeing day-to-day operations. They rely heavily upon community support to operate the shelter.

To protect the well-being and safety of their clients, McKemie Place does not make its physical address known. If you know a woman who needs assistance, refer them to 15 Place located at 279-B N. Washington Ave., Mobile, Alabama, to register for their services. 15 Place can be reached at (251) 694-5061. They will contact McKemie Place to make arrangements for them to stay there.

If you'd like to help McKemie Place with their mission, your donations are needed now more than ever! Please consider making a donation of your time, goods or financial resources. You won't regret it.

To learn more about how you can help, visit their website at www.MckemiePlace.org, or call (251) 432-1122.

KUDOS & CONGRATULATIONS

"Positive Signs" Installed at Medal of Honor Park

Thanks to the suggestion of three Mobile teenagers: Caroline Chestang, Elizabeth Thompson and Jordan Odom, "Positive Signs" were installed at Medal of Honor Park on August 13, 2015. In contrast to all of the negative "rules" signs telling parkgoers what they are not allowed to do, these signs are meant to boost the spirits of passersby with positive suggestions. It's wonderful to see Mobile's youth engaged in such positive pursuits and I congratulate these teenagers for showing such creativity and enterprising initiative!

Attending the installation ceremony along with Commissioner Hudson, were Mobile City Councilwoman Bess Rich, Mayor Sandy Stimpson, Caroline Chestang, Elizabeth Thompson and Jordan Odom.
