MESSAGE FROM COMMISSIONER CONNIE HUDSON

It's not too early to get organized for a spring cleaning initiative in your neighborhood or community, and the Mobile County Commission's Environmental Enforcement Department is ready to assist with Operation Clean Sweep. The Operation Clean Sweep program is a partnership between Mobile County and citizen groups. Groups consisting of at least 10 volunteers must commit to three or more hours of clean-up/trash collection on a designated Saturday. The county will provide trash bags, trash removal equipment and a work crew to assist with the effort. County workers will carry collected trash from a selected central location (dump site) to county landfills throughout the clean-up day. Two currently scheduled Operation Clean Sweep events are: 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at the Irvington Landfill off Half Mile Road and 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at the Dirt Pit at 1113 Hubert Pierce Road, Mobile.

For more information about registering for Operation Clean Sweep, general rules, and a list of items that are not accepted during a clean-up campaign Click Here or call 574-STOP (2867).

As you will note, the Mobile County Spring Calendar of Events in this newsletter issue is full of fun, educational and entertaining opportunities. Your patronage and involvement at these events helps to make Mobile County a strong and vibrant community.

Warmest Regards,

Connie

 volfirefeeTANNER WILLIAMS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Tanner Williams Volunteer Fire Department will propose a vote to area citizens who receive their services to increase their current fire district dues to $70 annually for each residence and business within the fire district. The vote will be held Tuesday, March 31, at the Tanner Williams Historical Building, 13701 Tanner Williams Road. Anyone who is exempted from property taxes will continue to be exempt from the dues. The district is managed by a board of five elected community members. Current members are President and Fire Marshall Jim Pearce and Paul Blatt, Clint Hamm, Rusty Holloway and Carl Peters.

The funds will be used to operate the fire department with the goal of improving fire protection through enhanced equipment and training. As a result of an affirmative vote, the fire district will achieve better fire protection ratings which will help to lower homeowners' insurance costs for the Tanner Williams residents.

The Tanner Williams Volunteer Fire Department will host a community involvement forum prior to the March 31 vote at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 at Tanner Williams Elementary Gym, 13700 Tanner Williams Road, Wilmer.
