PENGUIN PLANET AT THE GULF COAST EXPLOREUM
 
When: Now through January 2015
Where:
Gulf Coast Exploreum, 65 Government Street, Downtown Mobile

This latest exhibit at the Exploreum features four African black-footed penguins. The endangered penguins will remain through early January 2015. Sponsored by PNC Bank, Penguin Planet will feature a unique tank created to emulate the penguins' natural habitat. In addition, special trainers will deliver hourly talks about the penguins, which will teach visitors about the penguins' markings, eating habits and more.

MOBILE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER SPOOKTACULAR ANIMAL ADOPTION EVENT

   

When: Now through Friday,

October 31

Where: Mobile County Animal Shelter, 

7665 Howells Ferry Road, Mobile  

 

The Mobile County Animal Shelter is extending its Spooktacular Adoption Event through Howl-O-Ween, Friday, October 31. 17 dogs and one cat will be available for a low-cost (puppies and kittens) or free adoption fee (animals one year or older). The cost is being subsidized by donations from the public.

60TH ANNUAL GREATER GULF STATE FAIR

     

When: noon until 10 p.m.

Now through Sunday, November 2

Where: The Grounds, 1035 Cody Road North, Mobile         

 

This year's Fair will feature a new theme "Celebrate the Coast," which aims to host the best things about the Gulf Coast under one roof as well as more than 30 adult rides, 30 kid rides and a must-see entertainment line-up!  

 

Cost: Adults: $8; Children (2-12): $4; Unlimited Ride Armband: $20

BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) ROBOTICS GAME DAY

When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday,

November 1

Where: University of South Alabama, Mitchell Center,  


BEST Robotics is a science and technology program involving middle and high school students from 40 different schools in Mobile and Baldwin County. These students have six weeks to design a robot using a supply of basic building materials. These robots then compete to complete a series of tasks. Admission is free and attendees will be able to witness the robots in action and visit 40 exciting exhibits. Come support these students as they take part in this spectacular educational opportunity.

MOBILE STREETS ALIVE

   

When: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday,

November 2

Where: Downtown Mobile (Dauphin and Conti Streets will be closed to cars between Washington Avenue and Joachim Street route)  

 

Mobile Streets Alive, the first open streets project in Alabama, is an initiative of One Mobile in partnership with the Alabama Coastal Foundation, Downtown Mobile Alliance, Delta Bike Project, and Team Share the Road. It is a free, family-friendly event where portions of Downtown's streets are closed to automobile traffic and open for Mobilians to safely ride their bikes, walk, dance, and participate in many other activities along the way.
