The market features locally grown produce, seafood, beef, honey, breads, pastas, cheeses, plants, handcrafted goods for kitchen and home, live music and other activities. Arts and crafts vendors are featured on alternate Saturdays.

PENGUIN PLANET AT THE GULF COAST EXPLOREUM
 
When: Now through January 2015
Where: Gulf Coast Exploreum, 65 Government Street, Downtown Mobile

This latest exhibit at the Exploreum features four African black-footed penguins. The endangered penguins will remain through early January 2015. Sponsored by PNC Bank, Penguin Planet will feature a unique tank created to emulate the penguins' natural habitat. The exhibit will also include educational displays with facts about the Exploreum's new guests, as well as other penguins from around the world. It will also shed light on how human actions impact the success of the species. In addition, special trainers will deliver hourly talks about the penguins, which will teach visitors about the penguins' markings, eating habits and more.

81ST ANNUAL MOBILE JAYCEES ALABAMA DEEP SEA FISHING RODEO

     

When: 5 a.m. Friday, July 18 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 20

Where: Dauphin Island

 

The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, a project of the Mobile Jaycees, is the oldest and largest mulch-species saltwater tournament in the country. The Rodeo is a 3-day Captain's Choice tournament and a Southern Kingfish Association sanctioned event. The total awards package is valued at over $1 million in cash and prizes and is anchored by two boat, motor, and trailer packages. The 3-day event features 30 categories with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all categories. One Master Angler is also awarded along with cash prizes for King Mackerel, Speckled Trout and Big Game Jackpots. The ADSFR has donated over $200,000 to the University of South Alabama Department of Marine Sciences and annually funds academic scholarships.

DAUPHIN STREET VAULT

Where: Dauphin Street, Downtown Mobile  

 

The mission of Dauphin Street Vault is to promote the sport of Track and Field in a fun and unexpected way. It's secondary mission is to celebrate the awesomeness that is pole vaulting by throwing an amazing block party in its honor.

ONE MOBILE COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

 
When: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26
Where: Maitre Park, 2412 Halls Mill Road, Mobile and
Medal of Honor Park, 1711 Hillcrest Road, Mobile


Join One Mobile for a day of community service and fun! On Saturday, July 26, two groups of volunteers will head to two City of Mobile parks, Maitre Park and Medal of Honor Park, and turn ideas into action by painting, planting, removing trash, and most of all, making Mobile area parks places to stay in, play in, and be proud of! Bring family and friends to either park. There will be volunteer activities for all ages.

PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK PRESENTS "ANNIE: THE MUSICAL"

"Annie!" is a captivating show for all ages based on the famous comic strip "Little Orphan Annie." You will delight in the adventurous life of the fiery young orphan girl who goes from rags to riches with her dog Sandy and her wealthy benefactor "Daddy" Warbucks.

BACK TO SCHOOL SALES TAX HOLIDAY

     

When: 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 1 through midnight Sunday, August 3

Alabama will hold its eighth annual sales tax holiday giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, and clothing free of state sales or use tax, August 1 through August 3. Local sales and use tax may apply. Retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.

BELLINGRATH GARDENS AND HOME FOUNDER'S DAY: FEATURING FREE ADMISSION TO GARDENS! 

   

When: Wednesday, August 6 

Where: Bellingrath Gardens and Home, 12401 Bellingrath Gardens Road, Theodore

 

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 6, 1869, Walter D. Bellingrath was Mobile's first Coca-Cola bottler and the founder of Bellingrath Gardens and Home. In honor of Mr. Bellingrath's Birthday, admission to the Gardens will be free to all Mobile and Baldwin County residents! There will be an additional charge to tour the Bellingrath Museum Home.
