Ladies Professional Golf Association players will tee off to win up to $1.3 million. Jennifer Johnson is the tournament's defending champion. She will be joined in the field by players such as Paula Creamer, Azahara Munoz, Michelle Wie, Karrie Webb, Se Ri Pak, Lexi Thompson, Anna Norqvist, Natalie Gulbis, Jessica Korda, Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lincicome and others.

FORKS OVER KNIVES FILM NIGHT AT THE EXPLOREUM

   

When: 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23

Where: Gulf Coast Exploreum, 65 Government Street, Downtown Mobile 

 

This event will be the first of many health-and fitness-oriented documentary nights with Cindy Lane Ross of Bodies By Cindy, promoting healthy living at the Gulf Coast Exploreum. The film, Forks Over Knives, examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods.

LOWE'S HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS SUPPLIES DISTRIBUTION AT LOCAL SENIOR CENTERS

   

When: Noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29

Where: Tillman's Corner Senior Center, 5863 Nevius Road, Mobile  

 

Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Community Center (CHMRSCC), 3201 Hillcrest Road, Mobile  

                                              

The Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1. As part of National Hurricane Preparedness Week, local Lowe's Heroes will help Mobile County senior citizens and families get storm-ready by passing out free storm supplies on Thursday, May 29. Commissioner Hudson will join employee volunteers from Lowe's of West Mobile at the CHMRSCC location to distribute hundreds of hurricane preparation buckets filled with flashlights, batteries, tarps, work gloves and other emergency supplies critical to have on hand during hurricane season. Each storm kit also will have a list of 10 important steps to help safeguard your family and home in times of disaster.

SAVE THE DATE: TANNER WILLIAMS ROAD PROJECT COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT MEETING

VIA BOLT 5K RUN/FUN RUN AND 1-MILE WALK

   

When: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7
Where: Via Center, 1717 Dauphin Street, Midtown Mobile  

 

This event benefits Senior Citizen Services/The Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center and features door prizes and a Hawaiian themed post-race party with food, games and adult beverages. Run or walk with friends, family, co-workers or civic and church groups! 

 

Cost: Fees start at $10 and are based on age and day of registration.

CONNIE HUDSON MOBILE REGIONAL SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTER FOUNDATION FISH FRY

  

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7

Where: CHMRSCC, 3201 Hillcrest Road, Mobile

 

This fish fry (eat in or take out) will benefit the senior community center foundation and assist in their efforts to construct a covered patio/BBQ area at the center. The Modern Woodmen of America Chapter 18192 will match the proceeds raised up to $2,500. 

 

Cost: Donation of $10 per plate.

 

 

MOBILE COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS ANNUAL FARM-TO-TABLE TASTING EVENT

   

When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 9

Where: 5 Rivers Delta Hall, 30945 Five Rivers Blvd., Spanish Fort 

 

Again this year, the Mobile County Master Gardeners will pair local growers and producers with area chefs and caterers to celebrate the culinary bounty of our region. Locally-sourced produce, meats and seafood will be prepared for diners by professional South Alabama chefs. This eating-local feast will include wine, dessert, and music. Last year's event sold out well in advance, so make your reservations early!

 

Cost: $65 per person, Reservations requested by May 30
