MESSAGE FROM COMMISSIONER
CONNIE HUDSON

Season's greetings! During this Christmas and holiday season we are all more keenly aware and appreciative of our many blessings and most treasured gifts - our families and friends. This is also the time of year that charitable organizations assist in providing resources and toys as Christmas gifts to under-privileged children and families. In Mobile County, the opportunities for citizens to help in meeting the needs of those less fortunate are provided through organizations such as the Salvation Army Holiday Programs (Angel Tree, Red Kettle, and Neediest Families), the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation, Dumas Wesley Community Center Annual Christmas Toy Store and Wilmer Hall Children's Home. Please click on these sites for information about how you can get involved in sharing your blessings and make the holidays brighter for those in our community who are less fortunate.

May your Christmas and holiday season be filled with happiness. Thank you for allowing me to serve you on the Mobile County Commission. It is truly a pleasure and a privilege.

Warmest Regards,

Connie

volunteerpetVOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT
THE MOBILE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER
The Mobile County Animal Shelter is in need of volunteers to assist in all areas at the Shelter. If you are 19 years of age or older and would like to help with any of the following activities please come by the shelter during normal business hours to complete a volunteer packet or download an application and schedule an interview by calling the shelter at 574-3647.

Dog Walking: Animals at the MCAS need regular exercise and affection. Your efforts help them with socialization, which is critical in efforts to get the animal adopted.

Cat Socialization: Cats need to be comfortable with human contact. Any cat lovers are invited to assist in the socialization of these furry felines.

Dog Bathing: Dogs need regular baths to keep them healthy and clean and to also make them look their best for visitors and potential adopters.

Special Events: The shelter hosts many special events such as off-site adoptions and on-site adoption parties. You can help with transport, set-up and also general event assistance for these important events.

Photo Shoots: These photos are important to attract potential forever homes for the animals at the shelter. A lot of people now use the internet to search for adoptable pets.

Clean Kennels: Assistance with cleaning kennels is important because it keeps the pets in the best possible environment for their health and well-being and also allows staff much needed time for outreach and one-on-one guidance for visitors.

You can also help the shelter by being a responsible pet owner:
  • Have current identification tags on your pets at all times, also consider having your animal microchipped
  • Have your pets spayed or neutered
  • Ensure your pets are current on their rabies vaccinations
  • Report animal abuse and abandonment
  • Properly confine your pets at all times
  • Provide adequate medical care, food, water and shelter to all your pets
