Common Black College Application
|
Seniors can apply to any of 43 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) for $35 through the Common Black College Application. Applications are available at www.commonblackcollegeapp.com. The $35 application fee will cover the application fees for all of the 43 participating HBCUs!

University of Chicago Odyssey Scholarship program
|
The admissions process at the University of Chicago is need-blind, meaning they evaluate all students on their academic merits alone, without weighing their financial situation. Through No Barriers, UChicago students who receive need-based financial aid will be awarded packages containing grants instead of loans. The Odyssey Scholarship, established in 2007, is a life-changing program to empower low-income and first generation students at UChicago. Please click here for more information.

CCHS Seniors and Juniors with a particular interest in a college or university:
- Come by the Counseling Office and get a College Visit pass at least three days before the representative's visit.
- The College Visit Pass must be signed by the teacher whose class the student will miss during the visit time and the student is responsible for making up any missed assignments.
- The College Visits are 30 minutes long and offer the Admissions Representative to present great information about their institution.
- Students attending have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more directly from the Admission Rep.
- For many of the colleges, the visiting representative may be the first reader of the student's application.

Mississippi University Fall Preview Days

Mississippi University announces their Fall Preview Days on October 12, October 26 and November 9. Students are parents are encouraged to select the date that works best for their schedules. There is a $10 charge per person. These events are designed to assist high school seniors in their college search process. Lunch, MSU ice cream and a t-shirt are included with the registration. Space is limited and events fill to capacity every year, so students are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Online registration goes live on September 11 at 9:00 am.

Live Healthy and Thrive Youth Foundation (LHTYF) Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Live Healthy and Thrive Youth Foundation (LHTYF) Scholarship to assist Atlanta Public School and DeKalb County students with education costs associated with pursuing a Bachelor's degree in medicine, healthcare, education, or culinary arts, at an accredited college or university. Four $1000 scholarships will be awarded. Recipients must attend the 4th Annual Pinnacle Awards and Scholarship Gala on Friday, December 4. (No exceptions) Applications and details on documents required and essay topics can be found here or in the Counseling Office. Completed application packets must be mailed to the LHRYF Foundation and received by November 6, 2015. Late applications will not be considered.

Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship Program
|
The 2016-2017 Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship Program will award a $1,000 scholarship to deserving students To be eligible for the scholarship, students must demonstrate a strong commitment to community service, display leadership abilities in school or at work, and have a GPA of 2.8 or higher. CCHS may nominate one student for this scholarship. Interested students should notify their counselor of their interest by October 15, 2015.

National Young Arts Foundation Scholarships and Awards

Students who are actors, dancers, filmmakers, musicians, photographers, singers, visual artists, or writers are encouraged to apply for the The National Young Arts Foundation scholarships and awards. For over 30 years, Young Arts has honored more than 17,000 young artists with over $6 million in monetary awards, facilitated in excess of $150 million in scholarship opportunities, and enabled its participants to work with some of the most distinguished master artists in the world. Scholarships to Study Languages Abroad

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, provides merit-based FULL scholarships for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs.
NSLI-Y is part of a U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world. Now more than ever, it is important that Americans have the necessary linguistic skills and cultural knowledge to promote international dialogue and support American engagement abroad. NSLI-Y aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in language learning.

Coca-Cola Scholars Scholarship

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation application is now available. The Coca-Cola Scholars Scholarship is for high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA. Students may apply on the website www.coca-colasscholarsfoundation.org by the October 31 deadline. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - Applicants must be:
- Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States (or select DoD schools);
- U.S. Citizens; U.S. Nationals; U.S. Permanent Residents; Refugees; Asylees; Cuban-Haitian Entrants; or Humanitarian Parolees;
- Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application;
- Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution;
- Carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.

Mercer University announces the 2015 Stamps Leadership Scholars Program. Students selected for the program exemplify a distinctive passion for intellectual discovery and exceptional academic achievement, combined with unwavering personal motivation to grow as a leader. To be considered, a student must be a US citizen or permanent resident, and complete the application form and required documents along with a candidate portfolio showcasing qualifications by November 1, 2015. Annual Scholar benefits are full tuition and fees, room and board, an Apple iPad, and a $4000 Enrichment stipend to support study abroad.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend the nation's best four-year colleges and universities. College Scholars receive up to $40,000 per year, college planning support, ongoing advising, and the opportunity to network with the larger JKCF Scholar community. Davidson College announces the annually renewable Belk Scholarship, Davidson's most prestigious merit-based program (valued at over $60,119 for the 2015-2016 school year). In addition, each Belk Scholar receives two special study stipends (up to $3,000 per stipend) to pursue international study and other enrichment opportunities. CCHS seniors who are interested in the Belk Scholarship should contact their counselor as soon as possible for a nomination. CCHS may nominate one or two students for the Belk Scholarship before the November 6, 2015 deadline.

Clemson University announces the Lyceum Scholars Program
|
Clemson University announces the Lyceum Scholars Program through the Clemson Institution for the Study of Capitalism, America's first and only four year university-based academic program dedicated to exploring the moral, political, and economic foundation of a free society. The Academic Program is an eight course sequence with one Lyceum course each semester. Scholars take all of their program courses together as an intellectual cohort. Lyceum Scholars are paired with a faculty mentor who guides their intellectual development throughout the program.

The Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the national leadership pipeline by enabling high-achieving students from low income backgrounds to gain admission to and succeed at our nation's most selective colleges. By helping qualified students access these institutions they seek to ensure that our nation's leaders are truly reflective of its citizenry. LEDA recruits 100 qualified high school juniors who show leadership potential but may lack the exposure and support needed to apply to selective colleges. Eligible students will be high achieving juniors, enrolled in the most rigorous courses available, highly motivated and involved, and socioeconomically underrepresented.

Stetson University J. Ollie Edmunds Distinguished Scholarship will be awarded to one first year student for the fall term of 2016. Chamblee many nominate two students for this scholarship with an estimated value of over $200,000 over four years. Established in 1999, the Gates Millennium (GMS) Program is funded by a $1.6 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. has provided over 16000 eligible students good through graduation undergraduate scholarships. Eligible students
- Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American/Pacific Islander or Hispanic American;
- Are citizens, legal permanent residents or national of the United States
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or earned a GED
- Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activies
- Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria
- Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited college or university
- Have completed and submitted all required forms including the Student application, Nominator Form and the Recommender Form by the deadline - January 30, 2016.
