PSAT Registration Deadline is September 23
|
The PSAT will be given at CCHS on October 14, 2015. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
All tenth graders will take the PSAT. No registration or payment is required for tenth graders. The state of Georgia pays the registration for all Sophomores to take advantage of this opportunity.
Eleventh graders who wish to test must register for the PSAT (click here). The cost is $10. The PSAT serves as the qualifying test for National Merit and National Achievement Scholarships. Thanks to CCHS PTSA for supplementing the cost for our Juniors!

CCHS Seniors and Juniors with a particular interest in a college or university:
- Come by the Counseling Office and get a College Visit pass at least three days before the representative's visit.
- The College Visit Pass must be signed by the teacher whose class the student will miss during the visit time and the student is responsible for making up any missed assignments.
- The College Visits are 30 minutes long and offer the Admissions Representative to present great information about their institution.
- Students attending have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more directly from the Admission Rep.
- For many of the colleges, the visiting representative may be the first reader of the student's application.

Bryn Mawr College announces their Fall Travel Scholars Program on Saturday, October 24 - Monday, October 26, 2015. The Travel Scholarships are awarded to selected high school juniors or seniors unable to visit the College due to financial challenges. Travel scholarships will cover a student's expenses to/from Bryn Mawr College in addition to all meals and accommodations while on campus. Mississippi State University Scholars Recognition Day

Mississippi State University announces their Scholars Recognition Day on September 28, 2015. This event is only for high school seniors who have a composite ACT score of 29 or higher. Because this is an invitation-only event, there is no charge. However, there are only 450 seats available and they will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mississippi University Fall Preview Days
|
Mississippi University announces their Fall Preview Days on October 12, October 26 and November 9. Students are parents are encouraged to select the date that works best for their schedules. There is a $10 charge per person. These events are designed to assist high school seniors in their college search process. Lunch, MSU ice cream and a t-shirt are included with the registration. Space is limited and events fill to capacity every year, so students are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Online registration goes live on September 11 at 9:00 am.

Questbridge's National College Match Program
|
Questbridge's National College Match program connects outstanding low-income high school seniors with admission and full four year scholarships to the nation's leading colleges. College Match Scholarships cover the full cost of tuition, room, and board and are worth over $200,000. Typical College Match Finalists are in the top 5-10% of their class, scored over 1250 on the SAT (Critical Reading + Math) or greater than 27 on the ACT, may be in the first generation in their family going to college, may be eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, and come from households earning less than $60,000 per year for a family of four.

Mercer University announces the 2015 Stamps Leadership Scholars Program. Students selected for the program exemplify a distinctive passion for intellectual discovery and exceptional academic achievement, combined with unwavering personal motivation to grow as a leader. To be considered, a student must be a US citizen or permanent resident, and complete the application form and required documents along with a candidate portfolio showcasing qualifications by November 1, 2015. Annual Scholar benefits are full tuition and fees, room and board, an Apple iPad, and a $4000 Enrichment stipend to support study abroad.

Clemson University announces the Lyceum Scholars Program
|
Clemson University announces the Lyceum Scholars Program through the Clemson Institution for the Study of Capitalism, America's first and only four year university-based academic program dedicated to exploring the moral, political, and economic foundation of a free society. The Academic Program is an eight course sequence with one Lyceum course each semester. Scholars take all of their program courses together as an intellectual cohort. Lyceum Scholars are paired with a faculty mentor who guides their intellectual development throughout the program.

Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America seeking qualified High School Juniors
|
The Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the national leadership pipeline by enabling high-achieving students from low income backgrounds to gain admission to and succeed at our nation's most selective colleges. By helping qualified students access these institutions they seek to ensure that our nation's leaders are truly reflective of its citizenry. LEDA recruits 100 qualified high school juniors who show leadership potential but may lack the exposure and support needed to apply to selective colleges. Eligible students will be high achieving juniors, enrolled in the most rigorous courses available, highly motivated and involved, and socioeconomically underrepresented.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program
|
Established in 1999, the Gates Millennium (GMS) Program is funded by a $1.6 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. has provided over 16000 eligible students good through graduation undergraduate scholarships. Eligible students
- Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American/Pacific Islander or Hispanic American;
- Are citizens, legal permanent residents or national of the United States
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or earned a GED
- Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activies
- Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria
- Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited college or university
- Have completed and submitted all required forms including the Student application, Nominator Form and the Recommender Form by the deadline - January 30, 2016.

Washington University in St. Louis announces the Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University is now accepting nominations from high school counselors. Candidates will have demonstrated service and leadership as well as academic excellence. The University is especially interested in students who exhibit qualities that embody the essence of Danforths-maturity, strong moral character, selflessness and commitment to the community. Seniors who are interested in attending Washington University and would like to be nominated for the Danforth Scholarship should see their Counselor before September 30.

Scholarships to Study Languages Abroad
|
The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, provides merit-based FULL scholarships for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs.
NSLI-Y is part of a U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world. Now more than ever, it is important that Americans have the necessary linguistic skills and cultural knowledge to promote international dialogue and support American engagement abroad. NSLI-Y aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in language learning.

Davidson College Belk Scholarship
|
Davidson College announces the annually renewable Belk Scholarship, Davidson's most prestigious merit-based program (valued at over $60,119 for the 2015-2016 school year). In addition, each Belk Scholar receives two special study stipends (up to $3,000 per stipend) to pursue international study and other enrichment opportunities. CCHS seniors who are interested in the Belk Scholarship should contact their counselor as soon as possible for a nomination. CCHS may nominate one or two students for the Belk Scholarship before the November 6, 2015 deadline.
