Volunteer Learning

SAVE the DATE for Troop Camp Training
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 1 through Sunday, October 2 for a fun overnight training at Camp Koch!  This class will certify volunteers who have already taken Basic Outdoor Skills and On the Go so they can take their troop camping.  Registration will open in August.

Bust Gender Stereotypes

Want to make sure the girls in your life know they can do and be anything they want? Then it's time to flex some muscle and start busting gender stereotypes! Girl Scouts' Developmental Psychologist Andrea Bastiani Archibald, Ph.D. puts it this way: "Kids have this amazing, natural ability to see the world as limitless, but when adults signal that certain things or behaviors are off limits for kids based on their gender, their worlds get smaller and smaller-and that's not just sad, it can be damaging as well." CEI Update

Excitement is building and we need your help!

As discussed at Year-end Service Unit meetings, there are three things that troop leadership teams can do NOW to ensure a smooth transition in August.

Volunteer Resources
 Wrapping Up the Troop Year

- Plan school year-end celebrations (see resources below)
- Purchase membership pins and discs (or a bridging kit)
- Hand out cookie rewards
- Encourage membership renewal by June 3 for special incentives.
- Complete financial reports by July 30 at the latest, although you are encouraged to submit them as early as possible
- Request Adult Membership Numerals, if you are celebrating a 5-year increment anniversary
- Plan summer events!  The Girl Scout year runs through September.

Pat on the Back
GSSI has so many great volunteers and staff who are generous with their time and talent! A big thank you goes to:

Southwest Warrick, North and West Vanderburgh, and Knox Service Units for your hospitality at the Year-End meetings!  It was a privilege to celebrate with you. Check out our Facebook page for pictures. (from Donna, Lucy, Gretchen, and Margaret, GSSI Staff)

Jan Gogel for facilitating the On the Go class in Jasper for our volunteers in the northern counties.  They are excited to be able to plan overnights with their girls.  (from Margaret Dennis, Dir. of Volunteer Resources)

Friends of Ohio Twp Public Library, and Miss Linda, for hosting our Junior Sleepover at the library.  The girls had a great time!  (from Margaret Dennis, SWW volunteer)

Service Unit Cookie Chairs and Cupboard coordinators for making the Cookie Program a success! Girls benefit from your time, commitment, and dedication.  (from Melissa Rynkiewich, Product Sales Manager)

Would you like to give a "Pat-on-the-Back" to a special person who went that extra mile or
stepped in to help without being asked? Send an email to Margaret with the name of the volunteer or staff member and how she/he helped out.
