National Park Service Girl Scout Ranger Program
national park service patch

To celebrate the centennial year of the National Park Service, Girl Scouts and the National Park Service are teaming up to show how much Girl Scouts love our national parks----big and small, urban and rural----with the largest Girl Scout photo collage in the world! Between today and June 30, share your national park photos on Instagram or Twitter using #gsoutdoors to be part of the fun! We've also created a downloadable guide for volunteers on how to get started with the Girl Scout Ranger Program, so you can plan your trips to national parks in 2016----and beyond!  Start with our very own National Parks in Vincennes, George Rogers Clark National Historic Park and in Spencer County, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.

Art in the Outdoors

In December we announced the second Girls' Choice badge topic winner----Art in the Outdoors. In January, we opened the polls again and asked girls to decide what their new badges would look like. More than 12,500 girl votes were cast-and the winning designs were shared in February.  Badge requirements will be available for download May 30, 2016, and in council shops by the summer!

STEM overnight

Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts are invited to attend a fun STEM overnight camp at Vincennes University.  A generous grant between VU and NASA is making this June 24-25 event possible.

Bust Gender Stereotypes

Want to make sure the girls in your life know they can do and be anything they want? Then it's time to flex some muscle and start busting gender stereotypes! Girl Scouts' Developmental Psychologist Andrea Bastiani Archibald, Ph.D. puts it this way: "Kids have this amazing, natural ability to see the world as limitless, but when adults signal that certain things or behaviors are off limits for kids based on their gender, their worlds get smaller and smaller-and that's not just sad, it can be damaging as well." Pat on the Back
GSSI has so many great volunteers and staff who are generous with their time and talent! A big thank you goes to:

Daviess-Martin, Perry, North Warrick, and North Central Service Units for your hospitality at the Year-End meetings!  It was a privilege to celebrate with you. Check out our Facebook page for pictures. (from Donna, Lucy, Gretchen, and Margaret, GSSI Staff)

Amy Knight, Michelle Blandford, and Mike Gunderloy for facilitating On the Go and Basic Outdoor Skills classes for our volunteers.  When asked which was the most useful part of the class, one attendee responded
"There were too many things that were valuable and I had a wonderful time - it was a great experience."
(from Margaret Dennis, Dir. of Volunteer Resources)

Would you like to give a "Pat-on-the-Back" to a special person who went that extra mile or
stepped in to help without being asked? Send an email to Margaret with the name of the volunteer or staff member and how she/he helped out.
