GSSI has so many great volunteers and staff who are generous with their time and talent! A big thank you goes to:

Children's Center for Dance Education for creating the National Cookie Weekend flash mob dance and for leading the dance this past weekend! (from GSSI's Program Dept.)

All who submitted GSUSA Award Nominations/Endorsements! The time you took to nominate or endorse a fellow volunteer is greatly appreciated. (from GSSI's Recognitions Team)

Dana Jones and her 80s party volunteers!  The JH Castle cluster girls had a great time exploring the past! (from JHC troops)

Ohio Twp Public Library for allowing us to display the "Peace Quilt" made by SW Warrick girls during our World Thinking Day event. (from Margaret Dennis, event coordinator)

All who signed up for the Courier & Press Pot of Gold challenge to support GSSI!

Would you like to give a "Pat-on-the-Back" to a special person who went that extra mile or stepped in to help without being asked? Send an email to Margaret with the name of the volunteer or staff member and how she/he helped out.

Honor/Golden Honor Troop

This program recognizes troops that achieve the Essential Elements of a Girl Scout Troop, and provide overall excellence in troop management and programming in a given year. To achieve this honor, leaders and girls must work in partnership with each other, other troops, Service Team and council staff.  Applications are due June 15.  Troops are announced in the newsletter and at the Fall Volunteer ACT Kick-off meetings.

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman event

Women can choose their own adventure at an outdoor sports workshop with courses ranging from shotgun shooting to canoeing. Registration begins March 1 at IndianaBOW.com. The cost is $200 and includes all equipment, meals and lodging. Whether you've never stepped foot in the woods or you're a seasoned outdoor enthusiast, you'll have a wild time at Indiana's Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop, The program is designed for women 18-80+ to learn outdoor skills in a relaxed, low-pressure environment. Shoot clay targets, paddle a canoe, catch a trophy bass, become a campfire gourmet cook, make a fur hat, spot rare wild birds, or learn to track deer...it's up to you. Design your own outdoor experience to match your interests! (Indiana DNR)

Certifications

Did you know that it is recommended that you have more than one person in each troop certified in Basic Outdoor Skills, On the Go, or First Aid?  Read this testimony from one of our volunteers:"I would like to encourage any volunteers who haven't taken these classes to consider doing so - it gives you a lot more flexibility with activities in GS.  I would also encourage you to have multiple people in your troop certified (they also need to register/VAP)  I had an experience where I planned to take my troop to Camp Koch for the day and was the only volunteer certified in Basic Outdoor Skills.  We had a minor family emergency the night before, and I was concerned I may have to cancel the event as no one else in my troop had the training.  (Luckily it all worked out!!)"

Troop Camp Training (certification for troop tent camping)

Camp Koch, April 11, 9:00am to April 12, noon.  This is the only session before the fall!
