Invite a friend to start a new Girl Scout troop and you both get rewarded!!

Volunteers who recruit a friend to start a new K-5 troop will receive $50 to use at Girl Scouts' Official Online Store. The person you successfully recruit to volunteer will get a new Volunteer Resource Pack (a Girl's Guide, a Journey set, a badge pack, a tote, and pins)!

You have from November 1-30, 2014, to earn this reward.

The GREATEST BENEFIT of this offer is that we'll be able to serve more girls with the troop leaders you recruit.

Watch for more details on November 5 from GSUSA about this exciting offer!

Deaconess Greeting Card Program really makes a difference to patients:

Call to Action:

GSSI is looking for volunteers interested in being a part of the Girl Award Committee to review and approve the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. Details:

  • Must be available to attend interviews for girls working on the Silver or Gold Award on the first Thursday of every month.
  • Interviews are held at the council office from 3pm-5pm. Not all interview dates will have scheduled participants.

Pat on the Back!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GSSI has so many great volunteers and staff who are generous with their time and talent! A big thank you goes to:
Amy Knight, for facilitating an On the Go class in Tell City. Those in the class had a great time learning about fun ways girls can help plan overnight adventures!
Would you like to give a "Pat-on-the-Back" to a special person who went that extra mile or stepped in to help without being asked?  Send an email to Margaret  with the name of the volunteer or staff member and how he/she helped out.  Pats-on-the-Back will be published in each issue of this eNewsletter.
What?!?!?
Did you know that GSUSA membership is NOT the same as GSSI membership?
Any adult or girl who accepts the Girl Scout promise and law, and pays the annual membership dues, is considered a Girl Scout, and member of GSUSA.
Membership in GSSI is much more exclusive. To qualify for GSSI membership, a person must be 14 years of age or older, and registered with GSUSA through GSSI.  GSSI members include members of the Board of Directors and the Board Development Committee, as well as delegates elected by the service units.  Delegates elected by service units serve a term of one year or until their successors are elected. Members serve as a communication link between volunteers, Board of Directors, and staff.  The most direct link to the Board is through the second vice chair. Only GSSI members are eligible to vote at the Annual Meeting, at which they are charged with electing the members to the board of directors, GSSI board development committee, and delegates to the national council of GSUSA. Occasionally, the bylaws or the articles of incorporations may need amending, and it is GSSI members who will be expected to consider any possible changes.
If you are interested in learning more about the role of a delegate, contact your Membership Recruiter or view this 13 minute video.
Annual Meeting & Adult Awards Recognition 2015
Save the date for GSSI's Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, 5:30-8:30pm, at the Evansville Career and Tech Center on Lynch Road. All volunteers are encouraged to attend.
Who should know what?
ALL volunteers are encouraged to prepare for their specific role!
-Every parent should know and follow GSUSA's 12 Safety Guidelines.
- Every volunteer should view GSUSA's Girl Scouting 101 - either the 45- minute introduction for troop volunteers or the shorter version for event volunteers.
-Every member of the troop leadership team should also be familiar with the Job Briefing progression (Introduction to GSSI, Safety, Troop Management, and Age Level Program). The entire progression is required for troop leaders/co-leaders (01s) and strongly encouraged for assistant leaders (02s) and helpers (03s).
-All troop leaders and troop cookie volunteers MUST view this year's online cookie training.  The videos are 10 minutes for RETURNING cookie volunteers and 35 minutes for volunteers NEW to the Cookie Program.  Click here.
- SNAP and COCO training will be available face-to-face at the Cookie Kick-Off on Sunday, December 7, and on Monday, December 8.  This training will be led by GSSI's ABC Interbake representative.  ABC will also have online resources for these digital tools.  Check the council Web site, under "Cookies" for the full schedule.  You MUST pre-register here.
-All troops should be represented at their local Service Unit cookie training, or should arrange to meet with their SU Cookie Chair to obtain program materials, local instructions, and have questions answered.
 -
At least one volunteer must have On the Go Certification before planning any overnight activity, including sleepovers. Register here for the Thursday, November 13, 6-9pm class at the council office. Deadline to register is next Wednesday.
- At least one volunteer must have Basic Outdoor Skills certification before planning any campfires or outdoor cooking.  Classes will be offered in the spring.
