Greetings!

"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, his male of female slave, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." (Exodus 20:17)

We all know this commandment but many people are confused about what it means. The word "covet" can be a problem, in itself. The dictionary defines it as an act by which a person desires something "wrongly, inordinately and without due regard for the rights of others." This commandment clearly does not forbid us from admiring what another person enjoys. There is a significant difference between admiration and jealousy. Jealousy involves intense resentment toward another based on some strong emotion, such as fear, humiliation, anger, selfishness or embarrassment.

The scriptures themselves give us several very clear and powerful examples of what it means to "covet." In the First Book of Kings, chapter 21, we hear how King Ahab desired the vineyard of a man named Naboth, for his vineyard was next to the king's palace. Ahab not only admired Naboth's vineyard. He was obsessed by it. Eventually, he had Naboth put to death so that he could claim it. Ahab truly "coveted" the vineyard of Naboth. He was sinfully jealous over it.

Spring Fest is coming early this year and the Giving Trees are in Full Bloom in the back of Church: Spring Fest is scheduled
for April 26 through April 28

This year and you can help by pruning the giving trees in the back of Church. The trees are decorated with colorful ornaments that are looking to be paired up with a generous donor like you! All ornaments represent either a cash donation, for a specific SpringFest need, or a donation of supplies that can be bought at a local store for the event. For example you may find and ornament that says "Meat purchase of $50" or "Children's Tent Supplies $25" If you chose one of these colorful beauties you would simply put the ornament and your donation in to an envelope and drop it in the Sunday offertory collection. If you include your name you will get credit for your donation with your annual statement of giving for tax purposes.

If you choose and ornament that says "3 Boxes of Tootsie Pops" or "1 case of Hand/Baby Wipes" you would simply go to the store and purchase the item and put the item and the ornament under the tree when you are in church next. If you would like to get a receipt from Church for your item feel free to take your item to the parish office and obtain a receipt for your donation.

If you have any questions about the giving trees please feel free to contact Lauren Peters at 612-751-9620 or email Lauren at [email protected]

Please see the SpringFest website to volunteer, sign up online for the 5K Fun Run, and Italian dinner, and for the complete schedule of events: www.springfestonline.org.

Thank You for your kind consideration,

The SpringFest Committee

PARISH COUNCIL CORNER
By Karen Wallin

In Matthew 25: 35-41 we hear Jesus tell the righteous they will be welcomed into the Kingdom of God for their services and deeds. We learn that ministering to others is ministering to the Lord himself. On Fat Tuesday we recognized and thanked all our volunteers over the last year for their service to the Parish of St Michael. Currently at St Michael we have well over 50 different ministries, many of which are still in need of consistent volunteers either on their ministry council or for specific activities they perform. The next big event coming up is SpringFest; every year over 400 volunteers are needed to successfully conduct the entire weekend; please visit the SpringFest website at

sign up at: www.springfestonline.org/sign-up/volunteer/.

.

Many ministries are looking to for new members including the Parish Council. For a list of ministries, and for contact information, please check out the weekly bulletin or the St Michael webpage for more information . Over the years I have quietly volunteered in a few different ways with St Michael, including  the Parish Council, Sister Parish Council, and SpringFest to name a few. Though it feels good when all is done for the day, I never feel it is enough and sometimes want to do more especially with it being the Year of Faith.

FRANCISCAN INTERNATIONAL
AWARD DINNER
THURSDAY MAY 9, 2013
HONORING GINA TUPY

Gina Tupy

By Bob Beck

"Watch out when you give God a blank check,'' is a favorite saying of Gina Tupy, this year's Franciscan International Award recipient. As the indefatigable Director of Confirmation and High School Youth Ministry for the Church of St Michael in Prior Lake, Gina approaches her ministry with much joy, love and laughter.

Affectionately referred to as 'the oldest teenager in Prior Lake,' Gina has given her life to the youth of the Church of St. Michael in Prior Lake, MN for 32 years.  In that time she has created one of the most lively and fruitful youth ministry programs in the country.  In addition to directing the Faith Formation program she has created the Holy Grounds Coffeehouse, a loving and faith-filled place for teens. Gina has spent long hours on a bus for Catholic Heart Work camp mission trips, the National Catholic Youth Conference and the national March for Life.  She brought Quest, TEC, Cursillo and Parent Retreats to St. Michael.  She brings youth together for Teen Masses, concerts, lock-ins, Respect Your Elders and teen adoration.  As Gina often says, "teens don't care how much you know; they care how much you care."

As youth ministry volunteers in the Prior Lake area know, it's hard to say 'no' to Gina. We hope you say YES to our invitation to attend this year's FIA dinner honoring Gina's devotion to making Jesus known and loved in the lives of teens.

Keep Thursday, May 9, 2013 open for the 55th Franciscan International Award Dinner at the Wilds Golf Club in Prior Lake, Minnesota.  Call Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center at 952-447-2182 for tickets and reservations by May 3, 2013.
