All Saints

Greetings!

The month of November begins with two very important celebrations for Catholics: the Feast of All Saints and the Feast of All Souls. The beginning of this month is an invitation for all of us to reflect on how we, who are still living in this world, remain connected to, and can interact with, those believers who have preceded us. As Catholics, we believe that all of the ties of love and affection that are formed during our lives in this world do not unravel with death. This continuing bond of love is what we call: The Communion of Saints. All believers, living and dead, form the one Mystical Body of Christ.

When we are ill, or are facing a particularly difficult time, most of us will not hesitate to share this with close friends and to ask for their prayers and support. Love propels us to such requests and it encourages us to respond to such requests. Our belief in "The Communion of Saints" is simply our declaration that death should not stop these requests. It should not change our expectation for a loving response.

We should never hesitate to turn to the saints, our brothers and sisters, and ask for their prayers and their support in our times of weakness and trial. The Feast of All Saints does not call on us to pray to the saints or to worship the saints. They cannot take the place of God, to whom alone we offer our prayers and praise. They are, however, our friends and our heroes. They have experienced the same trials we experience and they have come to know the power of God's loving intercession. Because, in spite of death, we remain in communion with them, they are as willing to listen to our concerns and to offer their support as are our relatives and friends in this world.

This is very different from the so called "worship of the saints" that Catholics are sometimes accused of doing.

"Life doesn't begin at birth, and

it won't end at death".

A surviving family member can experience a considerable impact after a death. The Healing Hearts Ministry is a new support group for individuals that have lost a loved one through death. Our mission is to provide support, comfort and hope through faith, education and prayer.

The grief support group meets monthly. The meetings are held at the Church of St. Michael in the Archangels Hall (lower level of the church) on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Changes in meetings can be viewed on the Healing Hearts Ministry webpage by visiting the St. Michael's website. Brochures regarding this new ministry can also be found in the Narthex at the back of the Church of Saint Michael.

In addition to prayer, scripture, and personal sharing/discussion of loss and grief, guest speakers are scheduled for many meetings, presenting on various topics related to the grieving process and life after death for surviving family and friends.

All are welcome to attend, regardless of religious affiliation. There is no cost associated with these sessions.

If you would like to find out more about this new ministry, please contact  Doug Peterson (Chair) at 612-708-3611, or Carol Fink (Co-Chair) at 952-440-2377.

PRAY FOR OUR NATION

On Monday evening, November 5th (the evening before our national elections) the Parish Chapel will be open until 9:00 p.m. We hope that many parishioners will take this opportunity to stop for a moment of prayer to seek God's guidance and blessings on the United States. In our elections, as in all things, we believe that only the guidance and blessing of God can lead this nation to wisdom, prosperity and unity.  Please plan stop in the Chapel, even for a couple minutes, to ask God to bless the United States and to guide it along the paths of justice, peace and equality for all.  Let us remember the words found in I Timothy 2:1 - 4:  "First of all then, I ask that supplications, prayers and petitions be offered for rulers and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity.  This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and come to knowledge of the truth."

Vote Please remember this is a very important election. Please VOTE!
