For handbell musicians, our busiest season is just around the corner.  Be sure to take time to give thanks as well as gear up for Christmas.

There are many ringing and learning opportunities coming up in 2016 all across our area: Snake River Handbell Conference in Nampa, Idaho with Kevin McChesney; Inland Northwest Handbell Workshop in Pullman, Washington with Phyllis Tincher; Siskiyou Summit Handbell Conference in Ashland, Oregon with Cathy Moklebust; and Big Sky Handbell Conference in Pablo, Montana with David Harris. Information about all of these are in articles below as well as on our website.

Please forward this newsletter to your choir members and to anyone else who would be interested in all the concerts and events. Encourage them to subscribe to the newsletter. Click "Join our mailing list" at the bottom of the left column or click the newsletter link on our website, area10.handbellmusicians.org. With permission, I can also add names and addresses.

The inaugural Coppers' Classic closed Sunday, October 25th with a brilliant afternoon concert showcasing the growing and glowing skills of all the participating handbell musicians. Under the baton of Ellie Hodder the group worked hard, learned new skills and rose to new levels of musicianship. Besides rehearsing, the group had time to socialize building new friendships and enjoyed some time at the Farmers Market in downtown Vancouver on Saturday the 24th.

If you are a coppers (intermediate) level ringer and have not experienced the musical growth that occurs with a weekend of compressed rehearsals (rehearing the same repertoire over days instead of weeks) consider participating in the 2016 Coppers' Classic. You will experience handbell repertoire that will test and stretch your skills while pushing your musicianship to a new level of excellence. You will go home a changed and confident handbell musician ready to share your new skills with your home choir(s). Watch the Area 10 Website for details of the 2016 Coppers' Classic.

Cathy Moklebust has developed and directed handbell music programs since 1983, and has played bells since childhood.  With her dynamic, positive approach and skilled conducting, she is in national demand as a handbell clinician and festival conductor.  As one of today's most popular handbell music composers, she has numerous published compositions and arrangements to her credit, many of them reaching bestseller status.  Her music has been described as "pure joy to ring and listen to, having a uniquely delightful sense of melodic and rhythmic interaction, with elegant form and style."

Cathy earned both her B.A. (Music/Percussion, 1982) and M.Ed. (Teacher Education/Music, 1988) at South Dakota State University, in her hometown of Brookings, SD.   She was encouraged in composition by her music theory professors Mary Alice Spencer Berger and Dr. Paul H.
