President's Letter

A big thanks to everyone who joined us October 2nd at the Ameristar Casino Resort and Spa in Black Hawk, CO for our conference.  It was a great meeting this year and I will share some of the highlights here.

Andrew Architect and John Scott brought us the latest on some of the regulatory issues that threaten our industry − from Pollinators to the changes to the Pesticide Applicator's Act.  You'll want to stay tuned into our newsletters and the CDA for changes coming.  We are seeing activists visit city council meetings and pushing the ban on pesticides on city property.  It is important that every one of us get to know our legislators and let them know our position on this.

Andrew Architect, NPMA, received an award for his years of service to CPCA from 2007-2015

Coach Sean McCarthy did a great job of challenging us to put a vision out there for your people to follow.  It is our job as leaders to "dream a bigger dream."  Your vision should scare you a little.  The feedback from those attending was this was one of the best sessions we have had in many years.  Coach Sean is based in Loveland and is an affordable option for even the smallest company to bring in and motivate your team.

Lastly, we had a great session on hiring.  Michelle Stockstad from Orkin provided some great tools and insight on how to find and hire the right people.  The phrase "fire fast, hire slow" was really driven home with me throughout this session.  Michelle shared a number of steps and a book titled "Why" to provide the roadmap to success in this area.

Our board has agreed that next year we will extend this meeting to include some key CEC's.  I would ask that you let me know what credits are important for you and your staff in the fall so we can help meet your needs.  The fall conference will continue to offer key business strategies for the leaders and managers in your organizations as well.

Please feel free to email [email protected] with your ideas for future meetings.

Sincerely,
Kevin Lemasters

Analysis of EPA Proposed Rule Changes

In early October the NPMA Public Policy team held a webinar with the Public Policy Committee to discuss and analyze the EPA proposed rule concerning new certification and training standards for the use of restricted use pesticides. During the webinar the committee identified the areas of the rule that will need to be further analyzed and addressed in comments that will be submitted to EPA by NPMA.  Due to the scope and breadth of this rule, NPMA will be requesting an extension to the November 23rd comment deadline. The rule will be a priority topic during the Public Policy Committee meeting at PestWorld in Nashville. Please review the following information and provide input, questions or concerns to the
