As the busy season approaches, SPMAO wishes to remind all owners, operators and technicians to stay aware of all rules, regulations and legislation impacting the application of pesticides and the pest management industry.
 
Remember these points and reinforce them with your team:

• The label is the law. Always read and follow all label instructions when mixing, storing, applying or disposing of pesticides. Pesticide labels change from time to time and may vary from one manufacturer to another.  Read the label before every application.
• Communicate with suppliers to learn about label updates or changes in use patterns for pest management products.
• Make sure that both the target pest and the application site are listed on the label.
• If you cannot get a pest issue under control, seek help from a senior technician, supervisor, supplier, or other members of the association.

For many pest management professionals, self-study doesn't come as easy as it did back in school. With that in mind, NPMA has developed an ACE Exam Prep Track to help you prepare for the rigorous ACE exam offered by the Entomological Society of America. Pest Certified is offering a 3 day weekend course that is designed to help students pass the Ministry of the Environment pesticides licensing exam.

 

The course will review the Ontario Pesticides Act, safety protocols, IPM principals, math calculations for mixing and applying product. Pest biology and habits. Safe use and selection of pesticides.

 

Students need to apply for the licensing package which contain the study material prior to the course commencement. Applications for the licensing material and exam can be found here.
