Submit Your Nominations for the 2013 Women of Excellence Award 
 
The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is currently accepting nominations for NPMA's Women of Excellence Award, presented by Orkin. This is the fifth year the NPMA will recognize women who advance the pest management industry every day, in every way. Nominations may be submitted online no later than August 15. Self-nominations will be accepted. Click here to view the nomination guidelines.

 

The award recipient will be announced at a special award presentation during PestWorld 2013, Oct. 22-25 in Phoenix.

NPMA Accepting Nominations for Young Entrepreneur Award

 

Submit your nominations for NPMA's Young Entrepreneur Award which recognizes young workers in the pest management industry. Nominations may be submitted online. Self-nominations will be accepted as well. All nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. ET on August 15, 2013.

Applicants will be evaluated by an independent panel of industry experts on:
  • Notable contributions made to his or her company in a management level capacity
  • Contributions to the pest management industry
  • Personal leadership and community involvement
The panel of judges will select one award recipient who will be announced during PestWorld 2013, October 22-25 in Phoenix.

Wednesday, July 3 marked a year since siblings Rameez and Rehab Chougle died shortly after their Versova home was fumigated for bedbugs on July 3, 2012. Traces of the lethal aluminum phosphide were found in their stomachs.

But the Versova police are still to file a chargesheet or trace the worker, Salim, who had carried out the pest-control treatment. An internal inquiry against the policeman who failed to order a post-mortem is yet to yield results. Read more...

Hay Swamp Chosen as Research Site into Control of Emerald Ash Borer

Two Ausable Bayfield properties near Exeter are the first sites in Canada to be chosen for new research into biological control of an invasive beetle species that is killing ash trees.

As the emerald ash borer (EAB) continues to spread across Ontario, researchers from the Canadian Forest Service have selected two sites in the Hay Swamp area, west of Exeter, for their research into management of populations of the damaging insect. Read more...

UAE Doctors Urge Tough Action Over Lethal Pesticides

Doctors who treated a young girl who died after a neighbor used a banned pesticide called yesterday for tougher criminal penalties for illegal operators.

Farah Ebrahim, 11, died in hospital last week from heart failure brought on by exposure to aluminium phosphide, which is banned from public sale and may be used only by licensed pest controller. Read more...

Integrated Pest Control System Adopted

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has founded a pest museum as part of its efforts to achieve broader environmental health awareness.
The ministry launched the pest museum project after conducting a study between 2009 and 2011 on pests commonly found in Najran, Jazan, Asir and the Baha provinces, Yahya Al-Hoqail, director of public health at the ministry, said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency recently

Poisonous caterpillars could be making their homes in Camden's oak trees, the Forestry Commission has warned, advising residents not to touch the insect nests. The hairs of the distinctive spiny yellow and black oak processionary caterpillars contain an irritating substance called thaumetopoein, which can cause painful skin rashes as well as irritating the eyes and throats of people and animals.
