Bob Rosenberg Tapped to Lead National Pest Management Association


Bob Rosenberg has been appointed to the position of executive vice president, effective immediately. Rosenberg had been named as the organization's acting leader in October. The announcement came following a unanimous vote of NPMA's Board of Directors.

 

NPMA President Laura Simpson, highlighting Rosenberg's impressive career and several decades of experience with the association, stated, "We are thrilled that Bob has agreed to serve as our executive vice president in the years ahead. His experience, knowledge, and leadership will ensure NPMA is best poised to meet the needs of the industry as the association begins its 80th year of service. We look forward to embarking on a new era of a transparent, member-focused organization that consistently responds to the needs of 21st century pest management professionals."

 

Rosenberg shared his enthusiasm for the new position. "I look forward to working with the board and the rest of the staff in renewed and expanded efforts to educate, protect, and grow the pest management industry." He thanked the board for offering him "the privilege of working with industry professionals in a more strategic and visionary capacity."

 

Rosenberg's career with the National Pest Management Association has focused on advocating for the professional pest management industry's interests with federal, state and local government. An oft-quoted expert on all pest management related issues, Rosenberg has served on numerous federal, state and industry boards and committees.


NPMA PestWorld 2013 - Call for Speakers

Deadline for Submission: February 22, 2013

The National Pest Management Association is looking for your help to identify the most innovative and exciting speakers for PestWorld 2013. PestWorld, the premier event in the professional pest management industry, will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona, October 22-25, 2013.


Please take the time to consider recommending a speaker to lead an educational session at PestWorld 2013 by following the link below to complete the Speaker Recommendation/Application.
The information collected will help the PestWorld Planning Committee identify speakers and make decisions regarding the content of the program.

Please feel free to provide multiple speaker names and topics. NPMA welcomes both technical and business-related sessions.


Speaker suggestions may include, but are not limited to:
  • academics
  • business owners
  • technical experts
  • consultants from within and outside the industry
  • subject matter experts in sales, marketing, information technology, and human resources
  • other "outside of the box" ideas that no one has seen in the past
Self-nominations are welcome.

Please Note: Educational programs cannot be product or vendor specific.  Educational sessions proposed for PestWorld 2013 may focus on specific technology, methodology, or theory, but not on a sole manufacturer or product.


The deadline for submission is February 22, 2013.

Rat Bites Woman Passenger in AC Coach

The railways appears to be losing the fight against pests and rodents on trains. A 64-year-old woman was bitten by a rat in an AC III-tier coach of the Coimbatore-Chennai Cheran Express at Arakkonam station recently. Pests and rodents have for long been troubling passengers on long-distance trains, particularly in AC coaches. Recently, several passengers of a coach of the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Duronto Express had to be shifted to other coaches after cockroaches and other insects started swarming all over more than 30 minutes after the train left Chennai Central. Bedbugs Found in Downtown Vancouver Courthouse

Bedbugs have been discovered in the provincial courthouse at 222 Main Street on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, and those who work at the courthouse say the cleaning procedures may be to blame.

 

A pest control company discovered them in the barristers lounge, courtrooms 101, 102 and 307, as well as in the nearby Downtown Community Court.

 

Defence lawyer Chris Johnson says court services told him about the bedbugs in the lounge, as they were in the process of removing a couch. Read more...

New Study Shows Bats in Europe May Carry Viruses Closely Related to New Coronavirus

Viruses closely related to the new coronavirus that emerged last year in the Middle East have been discovered in specimens from a number of species of bats found widely throughout Europe and beyond, a new study shows.

 

While it is believed the new virus came from bats, it's not known whether it moved directly from bats to people - through exposure to bat guano or urine, for instance - or whether some other animal or animals such as some form of livestock became infected and passed the virus on. Read more... 

Haemorrhagic Fever Carried By UK Rats    
The Telegraph, January 11, 2013
 

It is thought rats carrying the disease have arrived in Yorkshire and The Humber on trade ships from Asia. Hantavirus, which causes haemorrhagic fever, was diagnosed in a man in North Yorkshire early last year. He suffered kidney problems and has since recovered. It is the first time hantavirus has been found in rats in the UK and further research is needed to establish how wide ranging it has become, a spokesman for the Health Protection Agency said. CEPA's Extra-Ordinary General Assembly, which took place in Brussels on February 5, 2013, voted unanimously to approve revised Statutes, clearing the path towards transforming the Confederation into a fully-fledged Not-for-Profit organization under Belgian law (ASBL).
