Valued Chamber Member,
Half of the year is over and we can't be more excited about the second half and what is coming. One event that I would like to draw your attention to is our Member Appreciation Day event on August 2nd, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. During this time, please join us in celebrating our 75 years of history benefiting the Defiance community. The best part- lunch will be on us! So join us for brats and pulled pork, chips, ice cream, and refreshments. We are also planning to have some neat displays from Arps Dairy and Coca-Cola so make sure to check it out!
The following week in August (August 8th through August 11th), we are planning a trip to Washington, DC. You should have seen information on this event in prior emails. You may also find information on our website as well, www.defiancechamber.com. For only $499/person, you can experience the nation's capital and all its history without the hassle of driving and planning the tours. We take care of that for you. We must have 30 participants to have the event and we still have spaces available.

Washington, DC!
August 8 - 11, 2013
Departing at 9:00 AM on the 8th from Defiance, we will arrive in Washington at approximately 8:30 PM
August 9th will find us on Capitol Hill, where we will visit the United States Capitol, and the Library of Congress. We will then visit the National Archives, have lunch and the opportunity to visit the American Art Museum & National Portrait Gallery, and / or the  National Gallery of Art and / or the National Museum of Natural History, and / or the National Museum of American History.
On the 10th, we will visit the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the World War II Memorial, with lunch on our own on the National Mall, before touring the National Air & Space Museum and Arlington National Cemetery
On the morning of the 11th, we leave Washington and drive to Gettysburg, where we will have a guided tour of the Gettysburg National Military Park, have lunch in Gettysburg, and arrive back in Defiance about 9:00 PM.
Price for this tour is $499.00 per person, based on double occupancy and a minimum of 30 participants. Supplement for single occupancy at hotel is $179.00. Price will decrease with more participants.
Price includes round trip bus, centrally located hotel with breakfast daily and complementary wi-fi, Entrance fee and guide at Gettysburg, taxes, and travel insurance.
Price does not include lunches or dinners, souvenirs, or items of a personal nature (telephone calls, laundry, etc.).

Volunteers Needed
The Ohio Women's Open is Monday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance. Last year, some of you took time out of your schedule to help as volunteers and we thank you. With the tournament a little over a month away, we would like to request your time again as a volunteer for the tournament.
As with previous years, the biggest need is for golf ball-spotters. The job would be to identify the landing place of a golf ball after it is hit off the tee, whether the ball is in the rough or informing whether or not the ball is still in bounds. Ball-spotters are used in 1.5-2-hour intervals (beginning in the early morning,) but if you want to volunteer for more hours, please let us know.
