Question:
I have a claimant who received a 30-day supply of Vicodin® (#240 tablets), but he was switched to a different medication after two weeks and is no longer using the Vicodin®. What should be done with the remaining Vicodin® tablets?
Answer:
There are several options for disposing of unused, unwanted, or expired medications. In fact, disposal of such medicine is recommended to avoid diversion, misuse, or unintentional poisoning. Whenever possible, disposal through a "take-back" program is preferred. (This year's  National Drug Take-Back Day is  September 26th.) Otherwise, medication may be disposed of at home by following a few simple steps.
