Race Kit Pick Up & Orientation Sessions

Date: Saturday, August 23, 2014

Location:  Ridley College, 2 Ridley Road, St Catharines, ON. in the Athletics

/Arena Complex. Driving directions can be found on this link. A campus map can be found on this link.

Time:  10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Orientation Sessions: Orientation sessions are about 45 minutes and cover important information about race day including race preparation, parking, setting up in transition, counting loops etc. Please plan to attend a session of your choice with your child.

Orientation Session Times:

10:30 am and 11:30 am

Parking:  There is parking at Ridley College for race kit pick up.

Race kit pick up is an important part of the race, here's why:

  • Athletes and parents become familiar with the race site, our volunteers and race day logistics.
  • Course maps will be on display.
  • A list of athletes in each wave will be posted.
  • The orientation sessions cover course information, advice on setting up in transition and how to prepare for race day.
  • Questions from athletes and parents are encouraged.
  • Athletes get a feel for the energy, they get their race shirt, bib number and they have an opportunity to get body marked...the event starts with race kit pick up!
  • Donations and pledge sheets for POGO and Autism Speaks Canada can be handed in.

Race Kit Pick Up Procedure:

STEP 1 CHECK IN AND BIBS -  Lines are alphabetical by LAST name.

STEP 2 BODY MARKING -  Not mandatory, but encouraged and fun.

STEP 3 RACE KITS - You will receive your race bag.

STEP 4 T-SHIRTS -  Your shirt is based on the size that was selected at registration.

STEP 5 Stop by the IronKids Vitamins & Supplements tent to pick up your full-size bottle of IronKids Multi-Vitamin Gummies.

Bike and Helmet Safety

Be sure to check your child's bike and helmet before race day. Loose handlebar bolts, zero tire pressure and brakes not functioning....these create dangerous situations for your children and put others at risk. Spending a bit of time to check out their bikes and helmets will ensure a safe race.  Bike inspection is not mandatory.

Equipment Restrictions:

As per Triathlon Canada the following restrictions and guidelines apply at all TRi KiDS races:

-Torsos MUST be covered for the bike and run portion of the race. This rule is for both girls and boys. You will be asked to return to transition to put on a shirt. Sleeveless shirts and one piece bathing suits are permitted. This means no belly button showing.

-Clipless pedals are permitted at any age, with the following conditions: for ages 13 and under, the cleat must be recessed into the cycling shoe, such that the sole of the shoe, not the cleat, makes full contact with the ground. The athlete must be able to clip into both sides of the pedal. For ages 14 and up, all clipless pedal systems are permitted.

-Cage pedals are NOT permitted at any age.

-Aerobars are permitted for the 14-15 age group only and must not extend more than 15cm beyond the front wheel axle, and they must not be longer than the brake levers foremost line.

Please remember athletes will not be permitted to ride their bikes or run without their torsos (upper body) covered. A shirt is required or one piece bathing suit or triathlon suit.

Athletes must follow the direction given by the volunteers in yellow t-shirts/vests.  Failure to follow the directions of the race officials, the use of profanity (athletes and parents) and putting the safety of other athletes at risk will not be tolerated.

Post race snacks (fruit, juice, SunRype snacks and cookies) are available for athletes only. Moms and Dads please bring a snack for yourselves and for children not participating.

If you plan to leave while the race is in progress you will be asked to wait and follow the direction of crew/volunteers before entering the transition area. Lost and found items will be left at the venue. The organizers are not responsible for lost gear.

Spectators: We ask that you be respectful of all athletes participating and be extremely careful when crossing the bike course.  This is for the safety of all of our athletes. Crossing the race course puts the athletes at risk of being injured.
