SunRype TRi KiDS
SunRype TRi KiDS Triathlon Series Newsletter

May 2013
It's hard to believe the first TRi KiDS race of the season is just over a month away !  We are looking forward to the start of the season after months of preparation. This is the 5th year of TRi KiDS racing and we have seen many TRi KiDS 'grow up' through the 3-5 age group to the 8-9 age group!

Both TRi KiDS Burlington and Oakville sold out in March.  Currently  there are less than 130 spots left in TRi KiDS Milton which has moved to a new date and great new venue.  Don't be disappointed, register today!

Here are the dates for races in Ontario:

June 23 - TRi KiDS Burlington (sold out)

July 7 - TRi KiDS Oakville (sold out)

August 18 - TRi KiDS Fergus

August 24 - TRi KiDS Niagara 1(new race!)

August 25 - TRi KiDS Niagara 2

September 1 - TRi KiDS Milton (new date!)

TRi KiDS Niagara will now have two races, held on two days over the same weekend. Niagara 1 will be held on Saturday and Niagara 2 on Sunday. Same event on both days, simply pick the day you want to participate. You will have so much fun on the Saturday you'll want to come back on Sunday and do it all over again!

TRi KiDS Milton has moved to the Milton Sports Centre and to a new date - Sunday, September 1st.

Please be sure to review the registration page  prior to registering for any race.

SWiM, BiKE, RUN for FUN..DRAISING!

The SunRype TRi KiDS Triathlon Series is proud to have the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) as a partner. They do amazing things for children and their families during very difficult times. POGO has been our charitable partner since 2009 and TRi KiDS athletes have raised over $66,000 for POGO.

A diagnosis of cancer in a child changes everything. The family is receiving more than frightening, life-altering news; they are entering a stage of indefinite uncertainty, stress, and often, financial despair. POGO's financial assistance program helps families focus on their child's care, not paying the bills.

Thanks to our Series Sponsor, Springfree Trampoline, a minimum $40 raised for POGO by TRi KiDS athletes through the online fundraising page is an entry in a draw to win a brand new Springfree Trampoline for your backyard!  This season Springfree Trampoline is donating TWO backyard trampolines to the end of season draw.

Create your online fundraising page today! TRi KiDS athletes can post a picture and a personal message.  From their personal online page emails can be sent to family and friends. It takes only a few minutes to set up and every dollar counts as we work towards our goal of $20,000 this season.

When everyone does a little the total result is extraordinary! Please make fundraising a part of your TRi KiDS experience.

Andre's Story
Where your support goes:
Profile of a young survivor

André missed out on a lot of things because of cancer. When he got leukemia, he missed his whole grade 12 year and fell behind the rest of his class. When he finally finished high school, he wasn't sure what he wanted to do, or what he could do, given all of his challenges-which are more than just physical. André has trouble with his memory and his fine motor skills-making it hard to study and take notes.

That's where his POGO counsellor comes in. They have been working together to match his strengths with his interests, research schools and complete applications for college and scholarships. She is able to work with the college Disabilities Office to ensure he receives the accessibility services he will require to successfully obtain the education he wants and needs. Special arrangements will include things like a reduced course load and designing a class schedule that takes into account his tendency to fatigue easily and the chronic pain in his feet.

André is an active volunteer and mentor to young kids who are facing a critical illness.
He created this video in hopes that young survivors will see the light at the end of the tunnel and know that it will get better.

Calling Volunteers!

Not only do the participants have fun at a TRi KiDS race, volunteers do too! Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering at one of our races. Each race requires 40-50 enthusiastic volunteers to fill various roles on the race course.  If your children are participating why not ask a friend or neighbour to come out and volunteer?  Volunteering for TRi KiDS qualifies for required community service hours for high school students.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the TRi KiDS races this summer please visit our Volunteer Page and fill out the online form.  Our Volunteer Manager, Louise Coyne, will contact you with details.

Thank you!
