The MovieBox is now operational at both the Central Library and the Fairmont Branch. This is the place to get the latest movies free for three days. We pledge to buy the newest releases of box office hits, as soon as they are available in the stores so that you can watch them when they are "hot."

Try the Pasadena MovieBox at the library near you this month. Remember you will need your valid library card and your PIN to use the MovieBox. We have staff stationed at the MovieBox for this month to show you how easy it is to get some great entertainment for your home. We have also started carrying BluRay discs as well, to ensure the greatest quality and high definition viewing enjoyment. You can search for the movies you would like to get from the MovieBox from your home computer or even your smart phone - and reserve them, so you will not waist time when you come to the library. I hope you enjoy the new MovieBox.

Want to renew a book or place one on hold? There's an app for that. Library hours or locations? There's an app for that. Download an eBook? Find information fast? There's an app for that, too.

The Pasadena Public Libraries have recently launched a mobile app to put the library at your fingertips. From any mobile phone or tablet connected to the internet, you can instantly tap into library resources...anytime, anywhere. You can search the library catalog, check your account, ask a question, find events and more. To access the library's mobile app, search Pasadena Public Library in your mobile device's app store and download the app.

Everyone lives on their mobile phones these days, so it's important for the library to be easily accessible whenever and wherever people need access to our staff and resources.

For instance, searching the catalog with the mobile app is especially easy. Just type the first few letters of two or three words and search results will begin to appear. For example, if you're looking up Mark Twain in the catalog, just type "ma twa." Once you find the title you're looking for, you can place it on hold right from your phone.

Our mobile app puts library information just one click away with much faster access than going through a browser. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this new way to use the library by downloading our app today.

I hope you enjoy the new technology that makes your library easier to use and enjoy. Try it out and see what you think! If you need help navigating this new technology, please ask our friendly staff who will help you find your way.

Best wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

December is here with its shopping, holiday music, decorations galore and FOOD, FOOD, FOOD! And most of it requires a contribution from your fast-emptying wallet. When the holiday "madness" becomes too much (or too expensive) for you, just come by the nearest branch of your Pasadena Public Library to enjoy plenty of FREE fun. Check out the two "Photos With Santa" programs the first two Saturdays in December and the new film showings (complete with free popcorn and drinks). We also have the new Movie Boxes at both branches where you can check out three (3) new release DVDs for three (3) days (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!). We also encourage you to come by and check out the library's many Christmas trees. For even more festive fun, don't miss outon the City's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 6 at 6 p.m., which features great free live entertainment, free refreshments, free crafts, Santa and Mrs. Claus and more gorgeous Christmas trees than you would believe possible. On Saturday, Dec. 7, the City will also host another fun Christmas event: the annual Holiday Lighted Parade, which will start at 7 p.m. at Fairmont & Burke.

The Fairmont Branch Library's First Monday Book Club will discuss Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini, and will meet in the Conference Room at the Fairmont Branch Library on at 6:00 p.m. Come join the group as they discuss this compelling historical novel that shows the privates lives of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln as seen through the eyes of Mrs. Lincoln's personal dressmaker (and freed slave) Elizabeth Keckley.

The Central Library's Tea-Time Mystery Book Club will discuss The Dark Room by Minette Walters, and will meet on Monday, December 16 in the Board Room at the Central Library at 3:30 p.m. Coffee, spiced tea, chocolate chip cake and other Christmas holiday treats will be served as the group delves into a deep psychological mystery where a millionaire's daughter wakes up in a hospital suffering from amnesia and not remembering that her impending wedding had been called off and that her former fianc (and his new girlfriend) had been brutally murdered in the same way that her first husband had been ten years earlier.

Contact William Simpson (First Monday) at the Fairmont Library 291-998-1095 X 15 or Mark Anderson (Tea-Time Mystery) at the Central Library 713-475-4993 for more information regarding these two excellent book clubs.
