Message from the Chair - Catherine Martin

"Quality is everyone's responsibility" - W. Edwards Deming

W. Edwards Deming, named an ASQ Honorary member in 1970 for his role as adviser, consultant, author, and teacher to some of the most influential businessmen, corporations, and scientific pioneers of quality control, is the most widely known proponent of statistical quality control.

The influence quality has today is broader than in any other time and history, and the potential it brings is without

limit. ASQ Los Angeles is committed to its members for professional development, access to information and networking opportunities.

ASQ Los Angeles May 2014 Highlights include the following:

Membership: Thank you for joining ASQ and the ASQ Los Angeles Section 700. Take advantage of all the valuable professional development tools, networking opportunities with other people passionate about quality, and access to unlimited knowledge that is available to you as a member of the ASQ global community.

Not a member of ASQ Los Angeles? Did you know that if your company is an Enterprise Corporate Member that you can join ASQ Los Angeles Section for $20.00? Also, if you are joining ASQ as an individual member, add your local section for $20.00.

ASQ Los Angeles can help make an impact on your career, your organization and your everyday life.

Certification: Our certification courses are underway. The first class was held on Saturday April 12 for ASQ CQE and CQA. It is not too late to register for the certification classes. The next class is Saturday April 26. See our www.asqla.org website for details. ASQ certification is a formal recognition by ASQ that an individual has demonstrated a proficiency within, and comprehension of, a specific body of knowledge. Invest in your career and your future with an ASQ certification.

New Committee Appointments:

Let me introduce the newest chair appointments for the ASQ LA Leadership Team:

Voice of the Customer Chair: Rebecca Collins

Social Media Chair: Anthony Valdez

Newsletter Editor Chair: Bill Trappen

Newsletter Publisher Chair: Harold Martinez

Education Chair: Lane Parrott

It gives me great pleasure to offer my congratulations and support to our 2014 new Chairs!

Upcoming Conferences: It is not too late to start plan for the 2014 World Conference on Quality and Improvement, May 5 -7, 2014, Dallas, Texas. This year's theme is "The Global Impact of Quality". Globalization connects us all, and through it, we see the growing influence of quality reach beyond individual organizations, industries, countries, or regions. International markets continue to influence each other, supply chains continue to grow increasingly international in scope, and more and more businesses are required to consider and align to the standards of multiple countries.

Social Media Communities: Make new connections to develop your career and your network. It's easy to connect. ASQLA recently enhanced our online social communities. As some of you know, ASQ LA social media sites are a social network that's open to our members. Social media communities have discussion boards, forums, blogs, and more. I encourage you to take a look at LinkedIn and Face book for ASQ Los Angeles.
